The third picture of Kay Arthur does look a little like she is holding up an apple for Adam.

Actually, she is talking about the Bible--God's plumbline of truth. Listen to Kay Arthur talk about the Plumbline of Truth.

. . .

Here are two links of an interview with Kay Arthur.

. . .

Relax. I'm done with this thread.

May God bless each and every one here on Baptist Board.

Woman or not, I've listened to Kay Arthur and can't recommend her to anybody.

Kay Aurther??

Are you sure you arent confusing her with mabey Marylyn Hickey, or Gloria Copeland or even Joyce Meyer?

Kay Aurther very VERY good. She is excellant as a Bible teacher.

Are you SURE its Kay Arthur you are refering to??

Here is some good material in support of women bible teachers, leaders, in authority, etc...

Deborah never made it into the “women’s role” sermon because she summoned Barak and he came—she didn’t go to him. Deborah, a wife and mother, led and judged the entire nation of Israel!

That was all God’s will! God’s doing! Deborah praised the “princes” who went to war under her leadership by the command of God, Judges 5:2 and 9. Apostle and prophet top the list of spiritual gifts in 1Cor. 12:28. A minister, listed simply as a teacher in the list, is listed beneath the spiritual gift of prophet.

Of course all spiritual gifts are important in the church, but some have greater responsibility before God. Prophets such as Deborah received direct words of God—and being married didn’t stop God from selecting Deborah or Huldah (2 Chron. 34:22) as prophets. God doesn’t change. If we can have women prophets we can have women teacher/ministers as they “rank” below prophets. Yet rank is not a concept that God promotes, for all leadership must be loving servant leadership, Matt. 20:26.

There were female leaders such as Phoebe, (Romans 16:1), Junia or Junias (“Greetings to those outstanding apostles, Andronicus and Junias…” Romans 16:7, New Jerusalem Bible); and Nympha—who had a church meeting in her home and is the only leader mentioned by name in her town, Col.4:15 NIV.

All of these women and many more, didn’t make it into those sermons about women’s role. Neither did Euodia and Syntyche, who Paul said, “contended at my side in the cause of the gospel”, Phil. 4:2-5, NIV. The Greek phrase mentioning these two women is originally a reference to wrestling side by side in the cause of the gospel! Paul praised these women for publicly and verbally wrestling for God’s Truth! Two women were publicly teaching God’s truth right beside Paul and Paul praised them for it!

None of us in the =EQUAL to SERVE= movement are arguing against men or advocating that women disrespect their husbands. But it is clear from 1 Cor. 12:11 that God gives spiritual gifts to both men and women as He pleases. A man is not lessened in God’s eyes because he acknowledges his wife’s spiritual gifts or the spiritual gifts of any woman.

Did Aquilla hold back Priscilla from her role of leadership? Did Barak refuse to obey Deborah? Did Deborah’s husband, Lappidoth, prevent her from being a prophetess and the leader of Israel? We do not attack marriage or male leaders on our web site or in any paper.

The church needs more love today. If we walk daily in God’s Spirit we will have love for each other and treat each other kindly even when we disagree

Jesus said WHOSOEVER practices and TEACHES these commandments will be called GREAT in the Kingdom of heaven! Matt. 5:19. Jesus never placed limits on His women! Jesus does not forbid women from teaching and achieving greatness along with the men who teach His commandments

When the lost and un-churched see debates like this they get a certain image in their minds. That Christians think women should stay in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant.

I'm just saying. As I read all this, that's something I can't get out of my head. An overly literal interpretation of Scripture does give that impression.

Thank you for bringing that to our attention. I, for one, wasn't aware that we were to tailor Biblical teaching to suit the unsaved.

Yes. If I had meant Gloria Copeland or Marilyn Hickey or Joyce Meyer or Paula White, I would have said Gloria Copeland, Marilyn Hickey, Joyce Meyer, or Paula White.

I meant Kay Arthur. If you think she's what passes for an "excellent Bible teacher", then you're welcome to her. I still will not be recommending her.

Nobody is suggesting that and you know it.

It's true that these sorts of debates do not bear good witness. It's kinda like the grinchalert.com thing. No wonder people leave the Church and never go back.

Interestingly enough, not one of these women were a pastor. Not one of them were a leader except for Deborah and we see that she was not a spiritual leader but a civic leader - and she was a leader as a shame to the men. But none of these women could be held up as an example of a Biblical leader in the sense that we speak of - that of pastor, elder or deacon and none of them were teaching men save Priscilla who taught a man individually, aside from the church with her husband and we can't know how much teaching she did. But to say that because of Priscilla, we must have women pastors is a stretch that even salt water taffy can't make!

I see this all the time from those who reject the passages that say a woman cannot lead and have authority over a man. In the case of Deborah she was a judge, not a priest. if you read over the judges there were those who were both priest and judge, but never a woman. God made sure she was not a priest because it violates His calling.

Then we have the other names you brought up from the NT, but we know that they did not teach men or exercise authority over men because the one writing about them is also the one who said they cannot do that. So unless there is a rebellious spirit the only conclusion is that women cannot teach or exercise authority over a man.

Women can teach and preach and have authority, but not to or over men and they cannot hold any office of deacon or elder/pastor.

Dude, nobody is rejecting the passages. We're rejecting what we believe to be a wrong interpretation.

There is nothing faithful about denying scripture with a personal interpretation contrary to what is written. I am absolutely positive that God is highly offended at bible interpretations.

Everyone interprets.

If you don't, you're not reading it.
