Does Calvinism require a higher spiritual intellect, spirituality, and...

ZIIIINNNNNGGGG!!!

I love it, totally using that in the future.

To say Reformed theology requires any of these things is silly. I have a PhD (from a rather reputable school) and am not reformed. I have friends who received their PhD from that and other schools who are reformed.

Its not about smarts. Its not about spirituality.

To truly follow Christ we must submit ourselves to His ways and His worship. Christ does require humility because humility is the exact opposite of the root of sin...pride.

My particular theological system is just as intellectually robust as Reformed theology. (For instance I have yet to hear a good response to my position on the counterfactual of freedom as pertains to divine middle knowledge concerning theodicy.)

Perhaps we should ask a more prescient question: does your theology lead to you worship God in spirit and in truth? Or does it lead to your own hubris?

The best theology leads to worship.

Excellent brother. Excellent!!!!

Calvinism is a highly intellectual system, but that does not make it correct.

It is like taking a jigsaw puzzle of a cow and carefully rearranging the pieces to get a horse. It takes great skill and intellect to do this, but it does not represent the truth.

The casual observer will think it a beautiful picture of a horse, but the careful observer will notice this horse has horns.

That in itself is a creepy explanation.

Yes, of course it does. I have learned from my dear brother Luke that in order to grasp the concepts of Calvinism one must be of high intellectual capacity. Those that do not grasp it and cling to these pitiful "whosoever" arguments are simply country bumpkins that have no mental ability. God has blessed us Calvinists with supreme abilities for His glory.

There will always be a living generation who profess themselves to be wise-----when the professors die off one by one---the coming generation will take up the baton and carry on the endless foolishness of the spiritless profession---until the Lord Jesus comes and burns every shred of brag from the hearts of every person who makes the profession

Give me a break, Matt!!!:sleep::sleep:

It is not I that should give you a break Blackbird. God causes all things, so if I have offended you in some way, God has offended you. If anyone brags of their intellectual capabilities, then God has caused them to brag. Their bragging will bring glory to Him, because it pleases Him.

If I was jesting it was only because God caused me to jest. God is the cause of all things.

Matt, I can see now why you have embraced reformed theology. No responsibility, no accountability, and no matter what you do, good or evil, it all glorifies God.

Now I see why this doctrine is so popular today.

Yes, you are correct. Calvinism is awesome like that! I know that everything I do is caused by God and it pleases Him for His glory. Everything has a purpose in His glorious plan and He is the supreme puppet master, guiding, directing, and causing every action. Occasionally I do something that is deemed "sinful", and then I remember that God, in His infinite wisdom, caused me to do it. So, then I realize it was actually good to do it! How wonderful!

There are intellectual overtones expressed in the people who push Calvinism for sure. But what is even more apparent is the result that comes with such knowledge, and not just from the Calvinist camp but also from others, and that is pride. Knowledge puffs up. Makes one behave unseemly. Somebody give me an AMEN!

Amen, pride is abhorrent to God. A very difficult temptation for any of us.
