Joel missed the boat. He is sincere and believes what he's doing is helping but our Lord and His Word encompasses much more than a feel-good doctrine. It does appear that way to many people will be entrusting their faith in the wrong area.

I'm not sure I can vote because I don't know that each of the statements are ones I agree with. I believe the Mormons are sincere - but sincerely wrong. They have taken evangelical terms and redefined them so that they sound like they agree with us but when you probe a bit, you see that they believe quite differently than the Bible tell us. They are not Christians because they do not follow the Christ of Scripture but instead a Christ of their own making - a created being, not equal to God, and not eternal.

However, I think we need to be careful about the term "cult". In the church, we have an understanding of what a cult is different than the world does and as such, we can cause a ruckus using term. To Christians, "cult" means a group or religion that does not follow the orthodox Biblical beliefs. To the world, a cult is a group where they follow one charasmatic man or a group of people who brainwash them and cause them to leave normal life and do weird things. I don't believe that fully applies to Mormonism but the Christian understanding of "cult" does apply to them.

I would not use any man as the mark to say if a Morman is a true believer or not. I would use scripture and Jesus' life as the mark. I believe they say an angel put two gold tablets under a rock in the 1800's and Mormanism began and extra scripture followed. But if a man or woman claims Jesus as their savior, I'm gonna conclude that they will be in heaven because love thinks the best.

Ann, Thanks for Your Sincere REsponse!

I appreciate your input. I may have missed the boat when I came up with these question. That is why there is the comment section, and your comment was more than enlightening.

Like I said I know a few Mormons, and I know they mean well. They are just being mislead

I'm not the judge of people's eternal destinies, but I will say one thing- Mormons are heretics and are outside the realm of orthodox Christianity. They are not a cult, however, because cult is a sociological term.

That sounds like judging to me.

and note: Titus 1:3 instruct us to "...rebuke them sharply"

Mormons are not Christians - they worship a different Christ as Ann said -they do not consider Christ equal to God the Father.

I Provided Some Good Links to Help Better Understand Mormons.

I have to agree with Salty. I've talked with numerous Mormon missionaries (the ones that come in pairs to your home), and they do not recognize or accept the Christ of the Bible as we do.

It was probably 25 years ago, now, that I nearly had one of the missionary boys ready to convert and pray and accept Jesus. However, the other young man, grabbed his partner, and they left in a flash of light.

The one couldn't handle the simple truths that I was pointing out to the two of them in THEIR own Bible.

....Joel is not out to make a "buck".....he is a millionaire many times over, which means he's out to make a "whole lot of bucks!"

No offense to the OP, but who cares what Pastor Joel says?

Really. And I'm not saying the guy has to have a PhD (or any theological degree) to be a pastor. But he can't put two theological thoughts together and make a sentence.

I just don't care what he thinks because, generally, he doesn't make any sense.

I think he cares, I really do...but man, he's got to get someone in his life to help him.

    No Offense Taken!

I understand what you are saying. I just thought this would make an interesting post and poll. We have probably all been visited by the Mormon twins at one time or another, and I believe we need to know what they are all about, and even know how to possibly counter their approach to the Gospel, and lead them to the true light of the world, Jesus!

and the same goes for Joel - if we get talking to someone, we need to be able to discuss intelligently the errors of Joel Osteen -

Amy remember what the Bible says inMatthew 5:22 about sayinng thou fool. In this case theword you used Moron is a synonym for Fool.

Sound good "plain and simple" but the Mormon Jesus is not the Jesus found in the scripture. They are claiming the wrong "Jesus" as their savior. Their Jesus is a created being formed as a result of their god having s#x with his wife in heaven. Satan, according to Mormons, is Jesus disgruntled brother. By the way, their god was once a man, from another world, who attained to deity.

Exactly. You need to get to the nitty gritty to see that we are speaking of different things when we use the same terms.
