If water baptism could save people, then what was the purpose of Jesus going to the cross?

It would be foolish for one to give his life in order to save people when that one could have saved people by baptizing them with water.

The fact is, water baptism no more saves than kissing a whale keeps it from being beached. And those who are relying on their water baptism to allow them entrance into God's eternal kingdom are only fooling themselves.

The bigger problem for them is that 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17 and 1 Corinthians 15:51-57 which describe only the resurrection of the righteous demand that glorification of the Christian occurs at the resurrection while Christ is still "in the clouds" before He descends to earth and thus long before the Christian stands before Christ in judgment.

Thus, the Christian stands SINLESS already fitted for heaven before he stands before the Lord to be judged according to his "works." This proves that their "works" have nothing to do with determining entrance into heaven or hell but only rewards for in heaven(1 Cor. 3:11-15) as they are already GLORIFIED in body made ready to enter heaven.
