What are your thoughts about the unanimous election of Fred Luter?

You tell me. I've never heard of the man. If he won by an unanimous vote, I would say most of them voting believed he was the man.

Well, he's as qualified as any of the other leaders have been. He's seen his share of victories and tragedies, and from what I know, has remained faithful throughout. He's a good organizer and planner, and has shown the ability to bring people together. I pray he'll do a great job.

I'm sorry I don't get it, why is it important to have a black Prez? I think it is more important to be conservative. I want the most qualified man, ot one who looks good. I'm not racist by the way. I have no prblem with a black anything.

Anyone can understand that an organization started when it split over the slavery issue, electing an African-American to its highest office is worthy of note.

I shouldn't even be answering you. But you should be ashamed of yourself for such a question.

Now I'm really confused. So it's OK to gloate about electing the first ever black Prez. I'm OK with that, but why is it terrible to ask how many white men were Prez? This whole country is crazy on this racism issue.

I get so tired of seeing our country treating other races as special when it comes to positions of importance. I saw this so much in the Military. We had to have a certian % of blacks and hispanics so we would match the demographics of the population. Why? It is because everyone is afraid of someone calling out the race card. I've seen it my whole life and it makes me sick. I think it is worse than what is actually called racism. As a supervisor I had to overlook qualified white's and accept blacks that didn't met the qualifications just to meet quotas. Whatever happened to hiring the most qualified regardless of skin color? I wonder how the black or hispanic man/woman feels when they lower the standards so they can gain employement or get a raise?

This country has done everything it can to appease minorities, we have black history month, Hispanic this and that, now we even are going to have gay pride month in the military. These things are OK but really think about why we do this. We are trying to paint a picture of how these minorities are really not that bad, they can contrbute to society as well as whites. This would make me sick if I was a minority. If you don't respect me without placing ads all over television and radio, then you probably still won't respect me. It's all fake.

Please don't take this rant of mine as me being a lunatic racists, I'm not. Some of my best friends have been black. This man who was elected is a wonderful thing and the fact that he is the first black Prez ought to be celebrated, but this talk of "it's about time" really befuddles me.

If the reasons are that the powers that be in the SBC were not submitting blacks as candidates then I would have a problem with that. That seems to where this thread was headed IMO.

I would tend to think that for those who think race is important, it is a matter of appearance.

The "Powers that be" has nothing to do with who is nominated----according to the SBC's constitution--it doesn't matter who you are---you can be black/white/red/yellow or polka dot----it doesn't matter----any person can nominate himself as candidate for President

So if it took this long to get a black president-----lets not look and blame the "Powers that be"------see???

I think that is a very valid question! Whats good for the goose is good for the gander?

Didn't know he was from Africa. Has the SBC had a Yankee President yet, how about a female, or someone with a major physical disability, ect, ect, ect

Here is the bottom line - does he consider himself the first Black President of the SBC, or does he consider himself a Southern Baptist?
