    Mary, the mother of Jesus, spoke in tongues? Where exactly does scripture say that?

    I'd love to watch that with Kevin DeYoung and Johnny Mac! Just watching their faces would be priceless.

    I Resemble that....

    ....I do not want even one word of anathema or condemnation for what I am going to say.

    What God has given to me is personal, and it is not something I encourage or teach other they need. I am only saying that the Holy Ghost has granted me a prayer language because it is true, at least to me.

    Is it for you? Or You? Or even You? I don't know! Only God knows the answer to this, so it isn't for me to say.

    When I received my language, I wasn't looking for it. In fact, I had just sat in on a district counsel meeting to help judge a fellow pastor that had such a language, and he was being removed from the association. Of course, his church was another problem, and they with all they had to keep him, even in light of losing their association funded building.

    I branded this man a heretic, like many of my brothers, and I didn't think it was funny when a month later I started praying in a language other than the one I was accustomed to speaking in.

    I prayed for the thing to leave me alone, but it wouldn't, and while I resigned, quietly from my church, and went on to lead an association pre-school and grade school as their principle. I never let on I had a language all of my own, and that included not using in public.

    Eventually, I left the COG/Anderson, Indiana after my first wife decided she wanted to be with another man, and asked for a divorce.

    Thi is another story, but years later, I became associated with two different Southern Baptist churches where my prayer language and speaking in tongues was encouraged from the pastor on down, and the second church ordained me.

    I've never gone public with my gift because I know how people see a language, and the word says not to place yourself, as a stumbling block, in front of your brothers or sisters.

    I will have this language until the day I die, and while I hated it and tried to be rid of it for years, I learned to accept it under two well established SBC pastors which had large congregations, moving in the gifts.

    We Californians are marching to a different beat, but you already know this.

    Jesus in Matt 6 told His disciples NOT to BABBLE on like the pagans do....the Corinthian church were pagans before they got saved and brought many of their pagan religion into their Christianity. Paul was constantly dealing with their misuse of many things...tongues being a big one.

    1 Cor 14:22, say "TONGUES ARE A SIGN FOR UNBELIEVERS NOT BELIEVERS"

    Tongues in the Greek always referred to a KNOWN LANGUAGE already spoken,to point the Jews to God by authenticating the speaker that he was indeed speaking for God.

    I could go on but just remember this.

    NO SUCH THING AS A PRIVATE GIFT....ALL gifts were given for the edification of the church not for ones own private use....God doesn't need you or anyone to speak in a language they don't even know...that would be stupid. Not only that like tithing PRAYER is more for our benefit not God's....he doesn't need our money nor does he need our prayers, He wants us to come to Him with sincere hearts and sound minds and bring our request and thanksgivings to Him...not mumbo jumbo....just saying!

    PS. the word EDIFYS HIMSELF that Pal was talking about wasn't a good thing, he was being sarcastic and saying you are only bringing attention to yourself and thinking only of yourself.

    Talking about babble?

    Allow me to leave you an old Idiom:

    "Oho!" said the pot to the kettle;
    "You are dirty and ugly and black!
    Sure no one would think you were metal,
    Except when you're given a crack." "Not so! not so!" kettle said to the pot;
    "'Tis your own dirty image you see;
    For I am so clean – without blemish or blot –
    That your blackness is mirrored in me."

    Do you want to know what "babble" is; start re-reading all your posts and comments.

    I believe I see something a little larger protruding from your eye, than what you are saying is coming from mine! :laugh::laugh::laugh:

    No, seriously; I want an answer. The guy in the video states that Mary, the mother of Jesus, spoke in tongues. I want to know where in scripture that's found.

    :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs: I applaud your testimony! I was in a church (SBC) at first that only the pastor and a few believed this! But I am now visiting another (SBC) that believe in the manifestation of the Holy Spirit and He is welcome in all the services!

    Believers do not need a sign! They already believe!
    I guess Jude 20 is telling us to do a bad thing! We get edified by praying, reading the Bible, listening to preaching of the word, worship! IT is our spirit that is build up! And that is not a bad thing! When we build something up, it strengthens!

    Acts 1:14

    Mary was part of the group that met in the Upper Room and the scripture makes it clear that all of those who were in the Upper Room spoke in tongues to the crowds (see the beginning of Acts 2).

    That's about the only thing the guy is the video was correct about. In just about every other element of doctrine and practice, he is mistaken.

    So, let me see if I'm understanding this. When someone prays in tongues, they don't know what language (if any) they are using. Presumably the Holy Spirit is causing them to utter words they can't comprehend, but God can understand them.

    So, essentially, we have one part of the all-knowing Godhead talking to another part of the all-knowing Godhead about something that the person saying the words has no knowledge of. Does this sound about right?

    How else does the Holy Spirit pray when we do not know how to pray? Isn't that one part of the Godhead speaking to the other part?

    What's the point? If the person praying in unknown languages doesn't know what he is saying and God is all knowing.....why would God have a conversation with himself?

    You know every time I see these kinds of posts I get irked.
    Why? Because tongues was NOT given to EVERY Christian. Yet we are some how supposed to think if we can't speak in tongues we are some how deficient in our Faith.
    1 cor 12 makes it clear this is NOT the case. There are different gifts, some are even said to cease, tongues is one of those. 1Cor 13.
    It is sinful to demand others do what God has not called them to do just because some preacher some where takes a snippet of scripture and runs with it.

    And those who believe that are not Baptist and it is highly unlikely they even go to a Baptist church.

    I pray in tongues.
    English, some spanish, fluent Tagalog, Waray, Cebuano (dialects in the Philippines).
    But I can't pray in gibberish like Jimmy Swaggart does.
    My sister, a "full gospel" adherent, one day said that she got this strong urge to pray (in tongues, of course) for her husband who was in Saudi Arabia, working.
    so she got out of bed and started to pray and she felt this cold sensation entering her body from the soles of her feet and coursing up and out of the top of her head.
    so my question to her was: "isn't the Holy Spirit supposed to be in heaven ? so why did he come from beneath" ?
    took awhile before she spoke to me again.
    lol.
    she doesn't like Baptists, of any stripe.
    And that's putting it mildly.
