Yes they are. The answer to the questions gives an insight on how the poor, elderly, etc. are viewed. The questions were not ask to inquire what people think of government programs, but their attitude toward those I mentioned in the first sentence.

I would rather my tax dollars go to help these people than to go to programs to kill people ... especially innocent civilians in countries with governments that we happen not to like.

    How about you?

No they do not give an insight into how we view the poor or the elderly. They give insight on how we view the gov't. Your view on them shows that you like the gov't to be everyone's supply. Mine shows that we ought to take responsibility for our actions and give to the poor directly rather than dilute the money we give by paying for administrators and lawyers off the top before anything ever gets to the poor.

People helped the poor and the elderly for thousands of years before the gov't decided to take over all of this.

btw, did you ever answer Alcott's questions without anything other than more questions?

But are we doing that. I do not believe we are, nor do I believe the American public, much less Christians will do as you suggest. I agree that would be best, but it isn't happening. In a nation as rich as ours there should be no one without help in their health costs.

True and they kept them at home. Of course they did not have the medical facilities, etc. that we do today.

Also, it was the church that really began hospitals, hospices, homes for the homeless and poor. We, Christians and the church[es] have not kept that going as we probably should. Perhaps there would be many more Christians if we Christians and the church showed more interest in the physical well-being of others. If a person is really hungry or ill and all a person wants to talk to them about is spiritual matters, it is very unlikely they will listen or believe that person has their needs at heart. As Maslow pointed out in his hierarchy of needs, if the physical needs are not satisfied people will not be much interested in listening to those preaching spiritual needs.

I fear far too many in our society today have the belief that if a person is in need it is their own fault and they deserve no help. I do hope that is not a belief held by Christians.

I guess part of my belief on this is influenced by the time and place I was born and grew up. When I was a kid growing up the depression was not that far behind us. People knew what need was and they taught that you help others in need, even to the point of sacrificing one's own material needs. I think that has been lost in our society. No one was rich where I grew up. There was a saying If you need help ask a poor person. Do not ask a well-off person or a rich person ... they will not help. Our country has become rich and the I won't help attitude has grown with the riches.

Thanks for showing that you are a big gov't person. Your beliefs are bankrupting this country.

Two very different things Tom. I believe in taking care of people and not spending so much on killing people and pork barrels that are so popular with Senators and Congressmen/women. The budget could be reduced greatly and folk taken care of if the pork was cut out.

Many government programs would not be needed if the American people still had the ethic of helping others. As I said in an earlier post, that seems not to be a belief held by many Americans these days. We are a richer society, but also a poorer one in other ways that I believe are or were important.

Also I believe in a flat tax. We all are on the dole in many ways. Maybe we in the middle class and the rich folk should have some of our perks taken away.

Nope. Wrong. They simply give you ammo for a preconceived prejudice. It isn't based on facts, it is a judgement, based on ignorance, and an air of superiority you have that your's is the only way, therefore, if we don't support your way, we must hate the poor. It is preposterous.

Another subject change. Well, your hero, Obama, sure hasn't done anything to stop it. How are you judging him ? Can you imagine a group of people he hates ?

And I know you're too much of a coward to answer yes or no questions, but since you say you're allowed to judge our giving, is our aversion to welfare programs sin ?

It is best to make an informed analysis and decision. If you consider that judgmental, so be it.

Now answer my questions about the poor. Thanks in advance [or are you a coward?]

Bill if you are going to be reporting Curtis because you do not like his language to you then you need to be careful of yours to him. Otherwise your behavior is just hypocritical.

“Judging others makes us blind, whereas love is illuminating. By judging others we blind ourselves to our own evil and to the grace which others are just as entitled to as we are.”

― Dietrich Bonhoeffer, The Cost of Discipleship
    [from OP]

Alright, so be it. In that Matthew 24 judgment you brought up, is that going to be based on "informed analysis and decision?" What it is is judging.

LOL. You didnt answer anything. And I told you your questions were framed, and stupid. No, I won't even attempt to answer them, because like I said, you have already judged me. Any defense I put up is me arguing uphill. Forget it. To be judged by you is to be judged by any heretic.

And I pronounce that judgement in love, love for the unsaved you send to hell feeling good about themselves.

You call him a coward if he doesn't answer your silly, self-serving questions that are brothers to "have you stopped beating your wife?" But you still haven't answered Alcott's question. And your favorite mode of dithering in responding to questions is to ask 4 or 5 questions yourself, demand that they answer them... then after all else tell them to look it up themselves.

I knew you were to dishonest and cowardly to answer the question and tell us your views on the poor, the elderly etc, who are in need.

Oh, I am sure all your negative comments are done in love.

Typical liberal tactic; redirect the conversation when they can't logically answer!

Another non-judgmental, loving comment I see.

Mind answering my questions? After all it is you who brought up the topic of poor people. Try being honest and carrying through on the topic you brought up. Thanks.

So you were being sarcastic when you called him cowardly and dishonest?

This is really waste of bandwidth.
