First off Christ is not an alternative to anything or anyone.
Romans 6:23. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I would say that life through Christ is certainly an alternative to death.

Repentance is not turning from sin. It is turning to God. Acts 20:21
No it does not say turn to Christ. Acts 20:21 gives exactly what must be done and the repentance is to turn to God. Not turn to Christ or turn from sin, but turn to God. In the end it depends on if you believe thta God means what he says annd says what He means or to believe what someone adds to scripture.
You mean change and/or add to scripture. No I choose to hold to what is written.
Acts 20:21
Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
So back to the topic; repentance is turning to God, not turning from sin. Turning from sin does not mean the person is turning to God. Turning from sin is the result of salvation not the avenue to it. In fact it is not even possible to turn from sin prior to salvation even though many claim we must. It is difficult enough after salvation and impossible prior to.

From Thayer's
μετάνοια
metanoia
Thayer Definition:
1) a change of mind, as it appears to one who repents, of a purpose he has formed or of something he has done
From the Net Bible:
Repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus. Note the twofold description of the message. It is a turning to God involving faith in Jesus Christ.
Repentance is always a change of mind. In the NT it is always connected with faith. Note that God does not believe or repent on behalf of the sinner. IOW, it is the sinner that must repent and believe; they are not gifts from God. God commands one to believe; not believes on their behalf (or gives them the faith to believe). That would be defeating the purpose of his command.
Salvation is an act of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ wherein as one puts their faith in Christ they at the same time take their eyes off the world and its sinful pleasures. This is a change of mind. It is also the definition of repentance--a change of mind with respect to one's attitude to God.
--a change of mind from the world of sin, to submission to God.
--a change of mind--that is what repentance is.
This says nothing at all about faith or repentance (here translated reformation) as being gifts. It is teaching that everything we have is because of the goodness of God. If it wasn't we would all be in Hell as we so richly deserve. We deserve the wrath of God, but instead he showers his goodness upon us. That is the teaching here.Romans 2:1-4 (YLT)
"Therefore, thou art inexcusable, O man -- every one who is judging -- for in that in which thou dost judge the other, thyself thou dost condemn, for the same things thou dost practise who art judging, and we have known that the judgment of God is according to truth, upon those practising such things. And dost thou think this, O man, who art judging those who such things are practising, and art doing them, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? or the riches of His goodness, and forbearance, and long-suffering, dost thou despise? -- not knowing that the goodness of God doth lead thee to reformation!
2 Corinthians 7:8-10
The entire passage is irrelevant. He is writing to Christians, the Corinthian believers who needed to repent of their sin. It was specific. They needed to have godly sorrow which is much different than the sorrow of the world. He is speaking about believers here, not the unsaved.(YLT)
"because even if I made you sorry in the letter, I do not repent -- if even I did repent -- for I perceive that the letter, even if for an hour, did make you sorry. I now do rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye were made sorry to reformation, for ye were made sorry toward God, that in nothing ye might receive damage from us; for the sorrow toward God reformation to salvation not to be repented of doth work, and the sorrow of the world doth work death,"
2 Timothy 2:24-26
He is writing to Timothy about being a teacher. They must be meek, etc.(YLT)
"and a servant of the Lord it behoveth not to strive, but to be gentle unto all, apt to teach, patient under evil, in meekness instructing those opposing -- if perhaps God may give to them repentance to an acknowledging of the truth, and they may awake out of the devil's snare, having been caught by him at his will."
God does not give his gifts to the unregenerate.Repentance, faith(justification), sanctification, glorification, I know this is at the last trump on resurrection day, all of these are gifts of God. God has chosen to save the heathen(nations) by faith. If faith is something we conjure up, then we justified ourselves.
This is complete heresy.
CoC's use the "one verse" method to establish their pet doctrine, too. You can't just say one verse, and say, "Look, this proves my point." You have to take the whole of God's word.
I don't change or add to scripture. You are just a very poor handler of God's word.
Again, you said sinners don't turn to Christ in repentance, but rather, they turn to God for repentance. You have, whether you realize it or not, put Christ not as God.
Christ is God. God is Triune, being Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. When you turn to God, you have to turn to Christ, because there are 3 that bare record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, and these THREE ARE ONE.
1 John 5:6,7 "This one is he who did come through water and blood -- Jesus the Christ, not in the water only, but in the water and the blood; and the Spirit it is that is testifying, because the Spirit is the truth, because three are who are testifying [in the heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, and these -- the three -- are one;"
That is why I asked you if you believed Christ is God. Modalism has them not being three in one, but one in three....thereby denying the Trinity of the Godhead.
Godly sorrow or sorrow that causes on to change their mind about God. No mention of sin. Repentance of sin comes after salvation.2 Corinthians 7:9-10
yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
Well if you believe the bible is heresy that is your business. I believe what it says in the order it says it.
Repentance is not what you turn from
. Repentance of sin is the result of the salvation received, not the path to it.
Our minds have to be renewed in all things.Repentance of sin is just one small part of a larger picture. We have to change our minds about God.
Repentance is a change of mind. It results in a changed action, but repentance in and of itself is no works. True repentance will result in changed actions. Luke 3:8-14; Acts 3:19). Acts 26:20 are a few examples of repentance for salvation and they also speak about the results of repentance. "performing deeds in keeping with their repentance." (Acts 2:38; 3:19; 11:18; 17:30; 20:21; 26:20) are a few others. Jesus taught repentance many times. Matthew 4:17 is one example. 2 Peter 3:9
Also remember that repentance is a gift from God. 2 Tim 2:25, acts 11:18

from A Baptist Catechism with Commentary;pg174
The term “repentance” signifies a change of mind. Soteriologically, it is a
change of mind or heart concerning sin which results in a turning from sin to
God, attended by a subsequent change of lifestyle (Matt. 3:7–8; Mk. 1:14–15;
Acts 17:30–31; 20:21; 26:19–20).
You never answered my question; you avoided. I will repeat the question again:
Please show from the NT where "repentance from sin" is required for a person to be saved.
The NT is inspired; the Catechism is not.
Judith
Men are born turning away from God. When the Spirit draws a person savingly, they turn from sin, they turn from idols to serve the living and true God. It is not either or ,but both.
.
Sure it is...you have a change of mind about sin, and your sinful lifestyle.
You turn from sin ,and turn to God.
it goes hand in hand...it is repentance from sin.
Our minds have to be renewed in all things.
JBH28 had a fine post in the other thread;
Some falsely teach that this is a mere human trust, and not a grace gift from God. That is mistaken and indeed unbiblical. God grants this to people, then they work it out.
Look how some resist;
trying to blame the catechism which offers several sections of inspired scripture which he ignores....
God does not focus on sin???
Try telling that to those on the left standing before the Great White Throne....

God not focusing on sin is like us focusing in on stopping our breathing....
