So Sunday is the only day during the week to work? Are there not 6 other days? Also another question. What type of car does the family drive? What about their house and entertainment spending? Do they own a smart phone? Lots of people these days make lots of excuses to get out of attending church Sunday, but at the same time drive a nice car, have a smart phone, a IPad, and always MUST have the latest models whenever they are released.

Once in the singles ministry when I was single there was a lady that sometimes asked prayer for her finances and that she needed to work lots of hours and have a certain salary to maintain. But guess what? On FB she sometimes posted that she wanted the new iPad, iphone, and other tech devices whenever they were released. She absolutely had to have a iPad for each one of her kids and believe me her kids were spoiled.

Perhaps this is what people so often fail to explain in their justification for missing church regularly. I knew the family and her kids did NOT ALL need iPads. It was a want made into a need by the mother

Since I made my book contract I have bought or donated for 5 books. All others did not incur a charge from a account of mine.

And besides when I do buy I usually buy USED and get my books under $10.

Because of my job, I did not attend church regularly for a few years. Are you saying that this was a sin, that I should have quit my job?

The problem is that we do not know what other people are going through.

You always have an excuse for the plank in your own eye while looking down on the speck in others eyes don't you.

How many of the same people who preach at others for working Sundays go out to eat after services, causing others to perhaps miss church?

I've lost track of how many times I have seen people rail about people working Sundays then go out and take advantage of places of business that are open on Sunday. When I worked Retail I would have to work 1 Sunday a month and one year that Sunday fell on Easter. Every time a customer told me what a shame it was that I had to work on Easter and that we were open all I wanted to do was say well your here shopping aren't you so of course we are open.

I do not understand how anyone can read Ephesians and come away with the nonsense people have said here. John Calvin said that God is the father and the church the mother.

First, honestly, evangelist, I don't appreciate the snarkiness (coming from someone who is very snarky, but never about someone else working to feed their family).

Second, even though you don't need to know, they drove a broken down, piece of crud car. They lived in a double-wide trailer. He was the only one who worked, as she stayed home with their infant son. This was not an excuse maker.

Not everyone can be as pious as you while doing nothing but quoting the works of other fallible men, shouting down people for enjoying a fantasy realm while proudly proclaiming their own love for a fantasy realm, and buying book after book after book and telling everyone else how they should buy the same books. I'm sorry if that offends you, but your crass statements have offended me, and I'm really hard to offend.

“Conviction without experience makes for harshness.” Flannery O’Connor

You seem, John, to have the heart and understanding of a Pharisee. I hope that you'll prove me wrong, and not by legalistic diatribe. I know that you probably will not understand what I am saying, that you are blind to your own legalistic traits (we are all blind, to a certain extent, to our faults). I truly hope that you mature to a point where you can grow in Christ, differentiate between your self-centered understanding and the gospel of Christ, and learn what ultimately matters. I hope you can put down all the books and study...meditate...on Scripture. I hope that this will change your heart and open up a greater understanding that cannot be gleaned from studying theological principles alone. I challenge you to learn what it means to be "in Christ"...not the theological definition, but to really learn experientially.
