I think that there are a great number of folks on this board who intentionally or simply out of ignorance, use bullying tactics to degrade, threaten, demean, embarrass, humiliate, insult, mock, attack, and disparage their brother's and sister's threads or comments. And what is worse: they claim to be doing it in the name "debating!" Surely it is not debating. Rather it is breaking the rules of the board, as they resort to harassment, being rude, and provoking anger in order to fight.

Of course, the witness of this board in the world looking in on us is one of horrors. We have a very poor witness when we succumb to the anger laced vitriol laced comments being submitted (and I am no better than the worst of these) to others whom we may disagree with, often, bitterly.

The problem is, debates do not exist to rip apart opposing views and the holder of those views. In fact, debating is defined as: de·bate /dəˈbāt/
(noun) - a formal discussion on a particular topic in a public meeting or legislative assembly, in which opposing arguments are put forward.

And what's even more disconcerning about attitudes on this board over the last year or more is that those who exist only to cause mental anquish to the holder of an opposing view is that their spirit and heart fail to meat scripture that exhorts how to treat one another.

Romans 2:1-29 (ESV) - "Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed."

Romans 2:1 (ESV) - "Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things."

Mark 12:31 (ESV) - "The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (if this is how you love yourself, so be it, but you must have a poor selfesteem going on in that heart of hearts?)’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Isaiah 54:15-17 (ESV) - "If anyone stirs up strife, it is not from me; whoever stirs up strife with you shall fall because of you. Behold, I have created the smith who blows the fire of coals and produces a weapon for its purpose. I have also created the ravager to destroy; no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall confute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord.”

FINALLY: Let me close with a quote from Jean F Larroux. His words say an awful lot in a little space:

"If the biggest sinner you know isn't yourself,
then you don't know yourself very well."

Proverbs 26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes. On the other hand: Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself.

Quick question, If a thread originator is on ignore, will the poll still show up?

Nothing I hate to miss more than a good poll.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there, does it still make a sound?

Since I assume no one will admit that they misrepresent others, or smear others by innuendo, or disparage others, I expect most will say Amen, preach it, because those that do not agree with me exhibit all those characteristics.

How about some quotes from our OP? Maybe he should practice what he preaches?

This is all from just the last 4 days!

Maybe you should read ALL of what I say, brother.

"Of course, the witness of this board in the world looking in on us is one of horrors. We have a very poor witness when we succumb to the anger laced vitriol laced comments being submitted (and I am no better than the worst of these) to others whom we may disagree with, often, bitterly."

I did not intend to not clump me in with the group that you most definitely are a part of. LIke Paul, "I am the chiefist of sinners!" Than you missed and I'm not sure how because I put the following in 6 point bold:

"If the biggest sinner you know isn't yourself,
then you don't know yourself very well."

I am in now way overlooking my own sins. Way too often people like you will eventually pull me into your mean-spirited attacks in an attempt to defend myself. It does that make me righteous, no it doesn't. And I always feel that I shouldn't have taken the bit or fell into your snare. That is my bad. What is your excuse, beyond pointing fingers? T act of provocation starts in your heart and ends up causing our hearts to follow suit!

Because Grace is greater than what I did in response to your comments and others, I will not retaliate with a cut and paste job with your words put up before the whole world to view. Instead, I will forgive you, because He has forgiven me for everyone of those remarks you so marvelously collected and pasted. BTW - I :applause: you for a good job! Shalom! :flower:

Sounds like a business meeting at the Southern Baptist Church I used to belong to.

Otherwise, from a review of some of the responses it would appear the OP hit the nail right on the head. You've confirmed the allegation.

    ...well, gotta move on here.

Hey, I've sat in a few of those church meetings. A reason some churches no longer have general business meetings.

Yes, you are right about the OP. I could count on my toes who would respond. I really pray people start letting Jesus speak instead of their flesh. But, I'm sure that will only happen in heaven

Paul, it has always been this way in here, sadly. It is crazy how rude people get on a electronic forum. I think we are all a little guilty of losing our Christianity in here. Maybe we all need to make a New Years resolution.

Folks there is a quick cure for the bulk of this type problem - IGNORE!!!!

Now some claim that for them it's "cowardly", or "unethical" or something that doesn't' allow them to put one of these "pot stirrers" on ignore, & that's fine if you prefer to fight the prattle.

I now have 2 on IGNORE that used to make the hair on my neck bristle with virtually every post, but now my BP stays pretty well stabilized by not reading their posts.

Yes, I do see their post if someone quotes it, but, for me anyway, the venom is diluted by not reading directly from them! Weird?? Absolutely, BUT IT WORKS for me.

There are a couple that have joined in the last several months that I'm strongly considering adding to the list, but have not yet decided fer sure.

Anyway, my main point is that the IGNORE can be your friend if you so choose. As the old saying used to be for some ad on TV, "Try it, you'll like it."

Just think, if enough people put these "critics" on ignore, who is going to respond ---- ummmmmm??
