What led to the downfall of major denominations?

Progressive Christianity has invaded american baptists, United Methodists, United Church of Christ, Lutherans, among others. I am sure everyone here sees this as another gospel since they do not believe in Jesus being the only way, emphasize good works, deny a literal interpretation in non prophecy texts, so in other words progressives do not preach on sin or Hell. Some examples are Rob Bell, Brian Mclarren, and yes also Obama. So what led to the downfall? Mac once said that these are satanic denominations and I agree with him.

The insane notion that God chose us as a divine nation where we could sit around and pat each other on the back, get lazy, and quit doing God's work. It is fact that the examples of the greatest church growth is during times of extreme persecution. God has never told people to get comfortable and safe. From the very beginning He told man to scatter, populate the world, and share His message of love. Every time man has settled down and made for himself kingdoms and riches he brought about God's wrath on himself. While we no longer need to populate the world, we are still to go out across creation carrying His message of salvation.

Cain was the first to go and settle down and build a city to make a name for himself. Here we sit, having made for ourselves a kingdom, to make a name for ourselves. And people wonder why the church is collapsing around them and this country is self destruction.

The same thing that cause the downfall of the church in the time of the Apostle Paul.

Galatians 1: 6-9
I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!

Unfortunately, it is the effects of the fall on people. What began as a passionate evangelism, goes into a 2nd generation slowdown. And eventually becomes an organization that needs to have money to continue to exist, so they accept the cash from any source even those who are far from the original founders' beliefs.

It is the end result of all Christian organizations. And if the theological foundation of a denomination are weak, then the slide is faster.

Rob Bell and his ilk are not the symptom they are the problem. Liberalism always destroys what it encompasses. Just take a look at Yale, Harvard, etc

Tom,

Yes, Tom I agree. The effects of our fallen and fallible attributes are the kernel of the problems. I have also "theorized" that our culture as well as others in history, disintegrate from within, often encouraged by the laziness which is a by product of wealth. Wealth in a culture, seems to encourage a pride in self and over confidence that things will always be "this good" without effort and struggle.

I agree completely.

Other than Bell's views on homosexuality, what beliefs of his do you find objectionable?

He denies a literal hell. He believes that hell is the suffering on earth. He us a universalist just to name a few.

"Bell denies that he is a universalist and says that he does not embrace any particular view but argues that Christians should leave room for uncertainty on the matter." (From a Wikipedia article)

I don't care what wiki ( as if someone would use them as a source) says. I have his books. He is good at liberal double speak.

I have always been amused when Christians tell me we should be like the early church, as though that period was any different than today.

Always remember, "liberal" like so many other assigned monikers, is so often in the eye of the beholder.
