    Hey everybody I was wondering are there other people that use the NASV [New american Standard version or bible](77) ? I am now using it and I kinda like it. Also how does it compare to ESV and New King James?

    It is a good translation. Certainly better than the NIV IMO

    Same here. My folks got me a NAS77 Ryrie Study Bible for me when I graduated basic training back in 1979. My preaching Bible is a LARGE PRINT EDITION. For some reason the print on my Ryrie was shrinking.

    I can't give any scholarly reason why I use the NASB. It's what I've used and what I'm familiar with.

    Thanks guys for the replys so far. I just go the NASV(77) a few days ago. I was wondering if people still use 77 edition of the NASV. I was wondering is there any difference between the 77 edition and the 95 edition?

    The New American Standard Version was my go-to bible for many years.

    Now I try to change versions every once in a while to loosen rusty thinking bolts.

    Below is a Old and New Testament example of the differences between the two editions of the NASB

    RED = NASB 1977
    BOLD = NASB95

    PSALM 23
    A Psalm of David.

    1 THE The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
    2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters.
    3 He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
    4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil;,
    for Thou art You are with me; Thy Your rod and Thy Your staff, they comfort me.
    5 Thou dost You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
    Thou hast You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows.
    6 Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
    And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

    Matthew 2:1-18

    NOW Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,

    2 Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east ,and have come to worship Him.”
    3 And when When Herod the king heard it this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
    4 And gathering Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he began to inquire inquired of them where the Christ Messiah was to be born.
    5 And they They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea,; for so it this is what has been written by the prophet,:

    6 ‘AND YOU, BETHLEHEM, LAND OF JUDAH, ARE BY NO MEANS LEAST AMONG THE LEADERS OF JUDAH; FOR OUT OF YOU SHALL COME FORTH A RULER ,WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.’”.’ ”

    7 Then Herod secretly called the magi, and ascertained determined from them the exact time the star appeared.

    8 And he sent them to Bethlehem ,and said, “Go and make careful search carefully for the Child; and when you have found Him, report to me, so that I too may come and worship Him.”
    9 And having heard After hearing the king, they went their way; and lo, the star, which they had seen in the east, went on before them until it came and stood over the place where the Child was.
    10 And when When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.

    11 And they came After coming into the house and they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell down to the ground and worshiped Him; and. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold and, frankincense, and myrrh.

    12 And having been warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed the magi left for their own country by another way.
    13 Now when they had departed gone, behold, an angel of the Lord *appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, saying,“Arise and take Get up! Take the Child and His mother ,and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him.”
    14 And he arose So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother by while it was still night, and departed left for Egypt;.

    15 and was He remained there until the death of Herod, that. This was to fulfill what was had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying,: “OUT OF EGYPT DID I CALL CALLED MY SON.”

    16 Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its environs vicinity, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had ascertained determined from the magi.

    17 Then that which was what had been spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,:

    18 “A VOICE WAS HEARD IN RAMAH, WEEPING AND GREAT MOURNING, RACHEL WEEPING FOR HER CHILDREN; AND SHE REFUSED TO BE COMFORTED, BECAUSE THEY WERE NO MORE.”

    "Certainly"? That is not the view of most who use English Bible versions. The NIV remains the top choice.

    However, the 1995 NASB is better than its predecessor. In many respects it is superior to the ESV. Although the ESV has some strengths in its favor where the 1995 NASB is weak.

    I like the contrasts Deacon (Rob) has pointed out between the two editions of 1977 and 1995. The ESV retains too many "ands" while the 1995 NASB substitutes other conjunctions.

    The NASBee ;-) is a fine translation. Thankfully we have other choices to fill in the gaps.

    What an inane remark Rm.

    D.A. Carson uses the NIV. You respect him.

    Many false teachers throughout the years have used the KJV.

    Joyce Meyer uses the Amplified.

    False teachers use a variety of good Bible translations to support their errors. You have proved nothing.

    Actually it made my point. See you engaged in a logical fallacy called the "bandwagon fallacy". Now you are engaged in another one called "appeal to authority". You have no real argument so you default to your usual fallacies.

    What argument? Everything I said in post #9 is true. Your left field remark about Joel Osteen still retains its inane status.

    My favorite study bible is the NASB95. It still has its share of archaic words, but less than the 1977 version. The NASB, either 77 or 95 differs from the NKJV in that the underlying text is the critical text (CT) rather than the "received text" (TR). And both the NASB versions differ from the ESV in that they adhere more closely to the grammar of the underlying text. The NASB versions translate nouns as nouns and verbs as verbs and so forth to a greater degree than the ESV.

    The Niv is the most popular translation, but both the 1977/1995 Nasb editions are better ones!

    I still have and use as my primary bible a 1977 edition Nasb, Ryrie study bible, and think main differences between 1977/1995 was that 1977 used 23 edition if Nestle, revision used 26 edition, and took out the thees and thous!

    Well the NASB77 is great to use alongside the Greek text...but it is really awkward to use/read outside of that. I do prefer NASB95 for is better use of English sentence structure. As far as the NASB95 compared to the ESV and NKJV, I would say the NASB95 reads smoother than the NKJV and the same as the ESV.

    Okay thanks for all the comments and debate. I got another question now. Why do some Ministers preach out of the NASV ( When I do this[usage of only NASV] this will be my use of for both editions) when it's "hard to understand'?
