3. Evangelizing the Lost
We teach that Jesus Christ has given the church an enduring commission to evangelize the lost, with this responsibility extending to every believer. Biblical evangelism must involve both the spoken word and the unspoken testimony of a life transformed by the grace of God in Christ (Matt. 28:19; Acts 1:8; 1Th. 1:210; Tit. 3:1- 8; 1Pe. 2:12; 3:14, 15). We believe that the work of evangelism should not just be local but that we should endeavor to obey the great commission which extends the purpose of the church regarding evangelism to the whole world (Matt. 28:19; Acts 1:8).
Many Calvinist churches (as Jordan will point out) lack an evangelism emphasis in their lack of gospel tracts, lack of open air preaching, and hitting the streets with the gospel. I saw an example of this at the Reformed Baptist Church I visited last week. But the church above has a large tract wall and is very big on hitting the streets with the gospel and open air preaching. Even Jordan would like this component of the church.
