Jesus was arrested, tried, sentenced to crucifixion,crucified and died on Friday, and He resurrected early Sunday morning.
Sunday is referred to as the First Day of the week.
The resurrection gave prominence to the First Day of the week so much that after Pentecost, Christians regularly met on this day to commemorate the resurrection.
Then along happened Sabbatarians who are hellbent on keeping sabbath. Holy Spirit reminds us in Romans, God is INDIFFERENT to esteeming a day above others or esteeming all alike. But the Sabbatarians are hard of hearing and they demonize those who don't esteem their day of choice! They take extreme offense at Holy Spirit's indifference to days.
Nothing hurts Sabbatarians more than Sunday worship. They really wish they could rewrite history and steal Sunday's prominence. They go beyond wishing and attempt to shift the resurrection of Jesus Christ from Sunday to Saturday.
Sabbatarianism therefore is the root of all these silly Saturday resurrection theories.
Of all the incontrovertible proof that Jesus resurrected on Sunday, I will pick on the simplest and the most damaging to these pedestrian Sabbatarian theories; the Road to Emmaus
Luke 24:1 (KJV) Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
Luke 24:13 (KJV)
And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs
Luke 24:18-21 (KJV)
And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? 19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: 20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. 21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done
Here is the short version;
1. On Sunday morning, some women visited Jesus' tomb to finish up the burial process
2. On the same Sunday but in the evening, two disciples encountered Jesus Christ as they walked to Emmaus
3. They tell Jesus that Sunday was the THIRD day since 'these things' which refer to the arrest, sentencing,crucifixion,and death of Jesus Christ.
If Sunday was the THIRD day, then Saturday was the SECOND day, and Friday was the FIRST day which is when 'these things' happened. Had Jesus died on any other day such as Thursday or Wednesday, one wonders what day Thursday and Wednesday would have been. Furthermore, had Jesus resurrected on Saturday, he would have, according to these two disciples, risen the SECOND day since his passion!
Next we will look at some silly counter-arguments against this simple proof that Jesus died on Friday and rose on Sunday
