Jesus was arrested, tried, sentenced to crucifixion, crucified and died on Friday, and He resurrected early Sunday morning.

Sunday is referred to as the First Day of the week.

The resurrection gave prominence to the First Day of the week so much that after Pentecost, Christians regularly met on this day to commemorate the resurrection.

Then along happened Sabbatarians who are hellbent on keeping sabbath. Holy Spirit reminds us in Romans, God is INDIFFERENT to esteeming a day above others or esteeming all alike. But the Sabbatarians are hard of hearing and they demonize those who don't esteem their day of choice! They take extreme offense at Holy Spirit's indifference to days.

Nothing hurts Sabbatarians more than Sunday worship. They really wish they could rewrite history and steal Sunday's prominence. They go beyond wishing and attempt to shift the resurrection of Jesus Christ from Sunday to Saturday.

Sabbatarianism therefore is the root of all these silly Saturday resurrection theories.

Of all the incontrovertible proof that Jesus resurrected on Sunday, I will pick on the simplest and the most damaging to these pedestrian Sabbatarian theories; the Road to Emmaus

Luke 24:1 (KJV) Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

    Luke 24:13 (KJV)
And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs

    Luke 24:18-21 (KJV)
And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? 19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: 20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. 21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done

    Here is the short version;
    1. On Sunday morning, some women visited Jesus' tomb to finish up the burial process
    2. On the same Sunday but in the evening, two disciples encountered Jesus Christ as they walked to Emmaus
    3. They tell Jesus that Sunday was the THIRD day since 'these things' which refer to the arrest, sentencing, crucifixion, and death of Jesus Christ.

If Sunday was the THIRD day, then Saturday was the SECOND day, and Friday was the FIRST day which is when 'these things' happened. Had Jesus died on any other day such as Thursday or Wednesday, one wonders what day Thursday and Wednesday would have been. Furthermore, had Jesus resurrected on Saturday, he would have, according to these two disciples, risen the SECOND day since his passion!

Next we will look at some silly counter-arguments against this simple proof that Jesus died on Friday and rose on Sunday

    vooks,

re: "The resurrection gave prominence to the First Day of the week so much that after Pentecost, Christians regularly met on this day to commemorate the resurrection."

Actually, as far as scripture is concerned, there are only two times mentioned with regard to anybody getting together on the first (day) of the week - John 20:19 and Acts 20:7. There is never any mention of them ever again being together on the first. The John reference has them together in a closed room after the crucifixion because they were afraid of their fellow Jews. Nothing is said about a celebration, worship service or day of rest. And it wasn't in recognition of the resurrection because at that point they didn't even believe that a resurrection had occurred.

The Acts reference has them together probably because Paul happened to be in town and he wanted to talk to them before he had to leave again. The breaking of bread mentioned (even if it were referring to the Lord's Supper) had nothing to do with placing a special emphasis on the first (day) because Acts 2:46 says that they broke bread every day. And again nothing is said about a recognition of the resurrection.

Do you consider the ordinance that Paul had given for all churches to follow in regards to collection being on the first day of the week?

1 Corinthians 16:1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

Seems to be a pretty good indicator that church services were held on Sunday.

Edited; originally gave wrong reference of 2 Corinthians when it was really 1 Corinthians; sorry.

I'm not the one to confuse sabbatarians with fact so I will suffer you to wallow in your mire and logic that ONLY makes sense to you.

I'm not going to quote Paul nor the ultra rich Christian stretching back to first century because swine have zero need of pearls.

Lets get down to Emmaus. Sunday, that same day was the THIRD,Saturday was the SECOND, and Friday was the FIRST

    Very true.
Sabbatarians imagine that there MUST be a command for meeting on Sunday. Latching on this, they charge non-sabbatarians to prove that Sunday fellowship is a command. They then conclude that absence of express command elevates the Sabbath since God commanded something about it over Sunday since He didn't

Now, God commanded other days as well, new moons, annual feasts and so forth which the sabbatarians cherrypick. Secondly, Holy Spirit in Romans 14:4-6 grants His children FREEDOM to esteem any day UNTO THE LORD or not to. The reasons for esteeming are irrelevant. Inside this freedom, Christians esteemed Sunday UNTO THE LORD as a memorial for resurrection from the earliest. And finally, NOBODY in the first 19 centuries entertained a Saturday resurrection. This is a modern Sabbatarian hoax.

    Back to the subject
If sunday was the THIRD day since 'these things, when did they happen, what day of the week

In fact Paul on the day before, after he had delivered his greatest of Sabbaths' sermons on the Resurrection, had made announcement "about the [following] First Day of the week". Read the last verses of chapter 15 to see.

Please quote from Romans 14:4-6 the phrase "~any day~" or the clause "~esteem any day~".

Please quote from Romans 14:4-6 the phrase "~His children FREEDOM~" or the clause "~grants His children FREEDOM to~".

    Is that so?

What says verse 6? Verse 3? Verse 1-2? Verse 10? Above all, verse 17!

Quote an example? Let me steal a march on you, the first and saintly Scripture-manipulating theologian politician Justin Martyr, +- AD 150.

Matthew 28:1, "In the Sabbath's ending / Late on the Sabbath's-Day / In the Sabbath-Day's fullness / Sabbath-of-fulfilment as it on the Sabbath Day began to dawn in the very mid--inclining afternoon daylight of the Sabbath began to dawn towards / against / unto / before the First Day of the week: THERE WAS GREAT EARTHQUAKE AND THE ANGEL OF THE LORD DESCENDING from heaven CAST THE STONE FROM THE GRAVE . . . . explained the angel to the women."

Matthew wrote well within the first century AD.

JUST SO Sundaydarians imagine that there MUST be a command for meeting on the Sabbath. Latching on this, they charge Sabbatarians to prove that Sabbath fellowship is a command. They then conclude that absence of express command elevates Sunday since God commanded something about Sunday over the Sabbath but He didn't command something about the Sabbath over Sunday - a la Vooks-logic.

If Sunday was "the THIRD day SINCE these things had happened",
the Sabbath was the SECOND "day SINCE these things had happened",
Friday was the FIRST "day SINCE these things had happened",
and Thursday was THE "day", THAT "these things had happened".

Nobody disputes Paul preached on sabbaths, what is super clear is that to the Corinthians, collections were to be had on Sunday not the day before. Any idea why?

    Romans 14:4-6 (KJV)
Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. 6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

I have asked you before since when were divine instructions left to individual persuasion. Is it left to your own mind to settle on whether to marry dogs or your fellow men?

    Verse 6
(KJV) He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

    Verse 3
(KJV) Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him

    Verse 1-2
(KJV) Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. 2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs

    Verse 7
(KJV) For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.

    What is your point?

I can't pretend to be an expert in comprehension classes so I will not give you one my friend.

Why would God's divine instructions be left to an individual's persuasion in their mind?

Paul is pretty sure and perfectly clear about ~Why~. Why did he not make the 'collection' when he announced his arrangement "about the First Day" on the Sabbath Day before? Because he did not want 'collection to be made' on the Sabbath Day, that's ~WHY~!
