I'm not sure that I'd say "as" the gospel is being presented. I know several who heard the gospel, dismissed it, but God used this "seed" or idea in their lives to at some point draw them to Himself. They point to the time the gospel was presented, but only after wrestling with the gospel (sometimes for years) did they arrive at belief.Regeneration happens solely as the gospel proclamation is being presented. The reason that I say regeneration does not happen as the gospel proclamation is being presented is that if this was so then many would have walked away regenerate unbelievers.
What I mean is regeneration happens solely through God's word. Ppl can read it and be saved, just ask Lee Strobel. Not everyone who hears the gospel is regenerated, I agree. Not everyone has ears to hear with...these are the ears of the spirit within man.I'm not sure that I'd say "as" the gospel is being presented. What I am contending for is this notion ppl are regenerated never even knowing anything about Christ. Ppl in deepest darkest Africa who have never heard of Jesus are not regenerated outta thin air.
I'm tracking now, and I agree. I didn't think SG was saying all who heard would would believe, but I thought he was saying that one is regenerated as the gospel is being presented. And I agree, Stefan, if the presentation includes recalling what had been presented (the gospel).I agree with your first point, but I don't think he was saying that all who hear would be regenerate, only that those who are regenerated do so as the gospel is being presented.
I would possibly even agree with both of you, if we could define presentation to include mental review/ memory recall. If God brings the gospel to the forefront of your mind, I see no reason why that couldn't be a regenerating moment.
How does God regenerate ppl in your opinion?I'm tracking now, and I agree. I didn't think SG was saying all who heard would would believe, but I thought he was saying that one is regenerated as the gospel is being presented.
I misunderstood. Thanks for the correction, SG.![]()
In therms of visible means I believe that God is a God of means and, as Spurgeon suggested, most often the means God uses is persuasion....a truth communicated to us and received in such a way as it has not before. How does God regenerate ppl in your opinion?
I agree with this. But do you believe ppl are regenerated whilst never hearing anything about Christ? I ask not to lead you but for some clarity of your position. In therms of visible means I believe that God is a God of means and, as Spurgeon suggested, most often the means God uses is persuasion....a truth communicated to us and received in such a way as it has not before.
But to go directly to the heart of the matter, I suppose I'd turn to Ezekiel 36. Conversion is the supernatural act of God where He drew me to Himself. I was dead in my sin and God gave me a new heart and a new spirit. God put His Spirit in me.
I see where folks are proclaiming regeneration occurs when the gospel is received. Hogwash. There is no support anywhere in scripture for this utterly bogus assertion. Regeneration only occurs after a person is transferred by God spiritually into Christ.
Huge false dichotomy you've erected. At least your consistent in you're error, I will say that.Where exactly does the washing of regeneration occur? In Christ or outside of Christ? Romans 6:4 says we are regenerated once we have been transferred into Christ. Where are we made alive, in Christ or outside of Christ? Romans 6:11. Where do we obtain eternal life? In Christ or outside of Christ? Romans 6:23 Where are we justified. Where is it that our condemnation is removed? In Christ or outside of Christ? Romans 8:1. Where are we sanctified. In Christ or outside of Christ? 1 Corinthians 1:2 Who put us in Christ where Christ became our wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption? God! 1 Corinthians 1:30. Where, following regeneration did we become babes? In Christ or outside of Christ? 1 Corinthians 3:1 Again, where are we made alive? In Christ or outside of Christ? 1 Corinthians 15:22 Who establishes us with you in Christ? 2 Corinthians 1:21 Where do we receive the heavenly blessings? In Christ or outside of Christ? Ephesians 1:3 Where were we made alive together with Christ? In Christ or separated from Christ? Ephesians 2:5 Where did we become "His workmanship?" In Christ or outside of Christ? Ephesians 2:10. Is the kingdom of Christ in Christ or in the realm of darkness? Colossians 1:13. Where are we made complete? In Christ or outside of Christ? Colossians 1:28. Where will we be when the trumpet sounds? In Christ or outside of Christ? 1 Thessalonians 4:16 Where is the promise of life? In Christ or outside of Christ? 2 Timothy 1:1 Where is salvation? In Christ or outside of Christ? 2 Timothy 2:10

Nary a scripture to support the falsehood, just insults and slander.
-snip-Ppl who are anti-gospel regeneration...-snip-
Are there any specific sects or denominations that are anti-Gospel regeneration?
If you don't know where these passages are at your present tenure it is doubtful you'd acknowledge their well known truths when presented to you.Nary a scripture to support the falsehood, just insults and slander. Nowhere in scripture is there any support for regeneration occurring before Christ died or outside of being located spiritually in Christ. None, zip nada.
