The first national flag of the Confederacy, also called the "Stars and Bars". The battle flag represents war, not the nation nor the culture. And, yes, I grew up in the South.

As an aside, does anyone know why there are 13 stars when the Confederacy has only 12 states. No, it is not for the 13 original colonies.

I think the designers were counting a border state that didn't ultimately secede.

Lousy attempt to insult one's intelligence. It's because Kentucky and Missouri, though they did not secede from the USA, sent delegations to the Congress of the Confederate states.
    BTW how much is 2 + 2?

And what other flags and symbols have represented an army fighting against the United states? The Mexican flag, the designs on the flag of new Mexico, the war bonnets of the plains tribes, the clinched fist with " burn, baby, burn!" Are you against all enmity, or just white enmity?

But do those symbols of our enemies-- Mexico, the plains Indians black rioters interfering and fighting public servants-- "annoy you to no ed," as you said of the confederate battle flag?

Also Kentucky supplied approximately 40,000 troops to the South.

    President Eisenhower officially declared
1961 to 1965 as hundredth anniversary of the American Civil War, and the Centennial was observed during those years. That is when the Rebel flag was raised at some state capitals. LINK

Previous to that, the battle flag was mostly displayed at Civil War re-enactments, and veterans’ parades.

California on the other hand most assuredly did not.

True. The comment was about why there was a star on the Confederate battle flag for Ky.

And I am continuing to comment on why the Confederate battle flag does not represent California's history or heritage except as a flag of opposing forces.

Although many former southerners moved to California after the war. I'm sure the flag meant something to them.

Yeup, and they've ruined the state, along with the Northerners. We got Northern liberals and Southern conservatives. What a mess.

No, they don't. I don't see them on an almost daily basis. I wouldn't be as annoyed at the Confederate flag if I didn't see it so often.

Annoyance at the Confederate flag is a result of a poor perception of how it is valued today.

Is there value in slavery, Jim Crow, lynching, and crop sharing poverty?

Not a whole bunch. How many years did the rebel flag represent a government in power which sustained these things? and how many years did the American flag ["old glory"] represent power that sustained these things?

It seems that no matter how well someone tosses a ball in your direction, it goes over your head. Either you are shorter than you appear, or you are a pro at ducking. I have to assume it is the latter.

    Let me say this s l o w l y .... back up your comment about the GOP. Or s h u t u p!

Actually, no. The first national flag of the Confederate States of America was:

That comment does not show on my thread. I appreciate your explanation.
