Yeah, anything over 300 EC votes is usually classified as a landslide in a technical sense of the definition but I think this election was pretty close.

It doesn't matter anyways, Trump has a mandate just by the fact that his party still controls all of Congress. I think his win was only historic in the fact that he is the first person ever who won the presidency without ever winning or even running for any other elected off first.

off = office, had to go make a typo. Wendell Willkie is another one that ran for the presidency without running in any other election but he lost to FDR.

But 300 EC votes is only 13% over the minimum and 55% of the total. 55% of EC votes has been achieved in at least 80% of all elections. Are all 45 of these presidential elections landslides?

"Debate"? [IMG] When are you going to realize that when the media/left/diehard-NeverTrumpers blitz Trump with ridiculous hype, such as he undeservedly won by a narrow victory, that he is going to hit them back with hype in opposition simply to watch and utilize the tirade which follows? FYI, the jokes on those who take the media’s rhetoric as something of value and in pure hypocrisy squawk like wounded spoiled children having their candy taken away by Trump’s mocking replies. Seriously, I would think that by now more would have caught on to the humor in this situation and how Trump merely turns their rhetoric against them but honestly it is rather fun to watch you guys getting played… ;)

I reacted to his campaign director's tweet. I'm not squawking like a spoiled child, I don't think his victory is undeserved (on the contrary, it was a brilliant unconventional strategy), and I'm not getting played.

But Trump supporters that think the 12th lowest EC victory margin is a landslide are being played.

The squawking was more directed at the media's return fire that ends up working against them.

Basically my point, the media goes on a blitz (after the recount issue arises) saying the victory is narrow and undeserved and the return payback hype is it was a landslide...does anyone really take this stuff seriously?

Try to focus on more than one thought at a time while you put yours to use, would you? ;)

Maybe we shouldn't take stuff that the Trump campaign says as being serious. They just engineered one of the biggest upsets in election history with a heretofore untried strategy against a strong political machine. Yeah, they should be ignored as being trivial.

Landslides are whatever you want them to be - yes, Light, 13% over the minimum would be a landslide if the popular vote was proportional - 56-44 or so. I would put this election in between "close" and a "landslide"- <300 EVs and a win is "close" but calling this one a landslide is an over-statement.

LOL, maybe I should have said non-military experience as well - Hoover is probably the closest of the three to Trump's background but he did run for president then served in Harding's (and CC's) after he beat him.

No, Andy Jackson was a senator from Tennessee for years IIRC - he was another military hero. He was supposedly volatile, like Trump is.

Kinda reminds me of Obama stating on more than one occasion that his administrations had no scandals. He is completely delusional, but that seems to be what politicians do. We use to call it spin.

That's what campaign managers do. Spin. That's their job.

Funny thing about "landslides". Obama has had 2 of them (maybe). Yet at the same time his agenda has suffered 4 major election defeats in Congress making him largely ineffective. So what did his "landslides" really mean?

Personally popular and a political disaster for his agenda.

Name your poison. There is more to a "landslide" than just the president's personal popularity.

The definition of a landslide is obtaining 60% of the vote
