You mean the ones by Spurgeon/Kennedy/Bright/ and Packer are all to long and dry?

 

I'm glad you are reading this. All of John R. Rice's books are that way. He wrote with deep conviction, compassion for the lost, and love for his Savior.

I have one of his on the HG. It was a college text.

 

I love it.

And he told me personally that he wrote that way to reach the widest possible audience for his books.

I think I've told this elsewhere on the BB, but he once told me that Barnhouse had said of his books, "John R. Rice writes for idiots." And JRR said, tongue in cheek, "There must be a lot of idiots out there, because my books are selling well."

 

I never had that for a textbook, but read it several times on my own.

 

It was back when I was at Luther Rice before I switched to Liberty

 

Which shows the influence JRR had in the SBC, not just among us IFBers.

 

A.W. Pink's books have sold a lot more than those of J.R.R. And A.W.P's theology was much closer to that of C.H. Spurgeon. In addition his passion for souls was not in the least compromised by his theological convictions.

 

My pastor and mentor in the ministry Dr. Pritchard spoke of him often.

What isinteresting is that he once was a firm Dispy, then switched!

After a long examination. He wrote 18 articles on the subject between Jan. of 1933 and June of 1934.

Philip Mauro was another prominent Christian who came out against Dispensationalism. DML-J came out against it in 1954.
