    This is one issue for which I am "liberal" (I guess).

    I don't like the death penalty but tolerate it.

    If "life" really meant LIFE I would oppose the death penalty.

    To me a true life sentence with the prisoner dying in prison is tantamount to the death penalty.

    The only exception would be if his/her innocence was proven after the crime.

    True, but He also allowed Rome to have the sword to execute criminals to keep the social order!

    In a Democracy government is of the PEOPLE, for the PEOPLE, and by the PEOPLE. Maybe you're suggesting a different form of government? Like a dictatorship? That might be a good definition of what we're about to endure.
