    THIS HITLER NONSENSE …

I am not an expert on Hitler. But my father is.

He toured post-war Germany extensively in 1957 and ’58 as a child performer. And he often recounts the stories. He befriended teenage Lebensborn children (if you don’t know what Lebensborn children are …well …before you post anymore about Hitler you should read about them). He visited an SS widow and got a peek at her husband’s uniform and Luger (that he’d committed suicide with), she had stored in an old trunk, in the attic.

The thing my father and I have often discussed, through the years, is the eye-rolling art of comparing American presidents to Hitler. It is such an absurdity we find it amusing …and frustrating. It’s often just a punch line. Like the Soup Nazi wasn’t really a Nazi. He was just mean. The Nazi part made it funny. You know …over-the-top. Like “grammar Nazi” or “spelling Nazi.” Nobody is really a “Nazi.” It’s our representation of something we consider jarring, strident, intractable and inhumane.

But the truth about Nazis isn’t funny at all. It’s bloody and horrible and gut churning. And it involves machine guns and butchery and inhumanity on a scale that takes your breath away. Nobody is really a “soup Nazi” …unless they served it in a concentration camp.

The idea of comparing an American president to Hitler is just as absurd …from any angle, in any context. The American system ITSELF pretty much prevents “Hitlers” from showing up. And America ITSELF is anathema to what Hitler was trying to create. An American ANYTHING or ANYONE is hard to fit into the Hitler model. It’s just not apples to apples.

There are some fundamental things to understand about Hitler:

I read a translation of Mein Kampf for a WWII college history paper.

    Correct. The fundamentals are important.
Strangely enough Hitler was at one time a staunch defender of all things Jewish.

His book rambles and gets down right boring.

He goes into things like the superiority of Austrian bullets over any others (for a whole chapter).
It is not evident that he is mentally deranged until his antisemitism begins to show.

His final solution: Annihilation of the Jewish people.

Here is an online English translation of Mein Kampf
    https://archive.org/stream/meinkampf035176mbp/meinkampf035176mbp_djvu.txt

After completing the paper the book disappeared. I asked my wife about it, she confessed that she threw it out and said "I didn't want it in our house". We both have a Hebrew heritage. I am Italian-Jewish, she is Ukrainian-Jewish.

It's good to be able to use bad things in a light way. If you want to look for things to be offended about (as an excuse to hurt others), then join the Democrat party.

    Agreed.

But that's not what is happening with the Hitlerization of Trump by the left...and some here at BB.

"Hitler was a real life murdering sociopath. He wasn’t just a charismatic speaker who incrementally fell into bad behavior. He wasn’t just a racist corrupted by unfettered power. In other words, you or I probably couldn’t end up being Hitler. A garden variety KKK leader probably couldn’t end up being Hitler either …or a community organizer …or a New York real-estate tycoon. It’s not that easy or simple."

Hitler was a monster. The left wants to make the connection because thay want to make Trump out as a monster, just like Hitler.

Christians here, who try to make that same connection, should be ashamed of themselves.

Article continues and has many errors. With so many mistakes I wonder about everything this guy said.

    From the article:

There are some fundamental things to understand about Hitler:

    1. He took over a small, failing state that didn’t have separated government, enumerated powers or checks and balances. It’s difficult for a guy like that to show up here, in this system.[/QUOTE]

Wrong. In 1933 Germany was a country of about 67 million people, larger than the United Kingdom, larger than France, larger than Italy (all were around 45 million). It had a constitutional republic considered to have the most democratic constitution in history. with a bicameral legislature, the lower house called the Reichstag, the upper house called the Reichsrat; an executive branch consisting of a President and a chancellor, and a judicial branch.

    2. His entire political career was violent from the beginning. There was always death in his wake. He didn’t just suddenly “turn” violent. It was a pattern …as it always is with sociopaths. This is THE most important thing to watch; the violence. I always keep an eye on who is rioting …breaking things …throwing rocks and bombs. It doesn’t make them Nazis. But it signals how far they’re willing to go.

Wrong. After the failed Beer Hall Putsch of 1924, Hitler swore off violence as a method of gaining power. He wanted to make sure everything was done in a lawful manner, according to the book. It as not until the Night of Long Knives, on June 30, 1934, over a year and a half after he gained power that he resorted to violence to purge the Stormtroopers. Hitler decided he had to put down the Stormtroopers (or Brownshirts) because they were demanding to have control of the German military. Hitler knew the revered German generals would never agree to this and Hitler needed the military on his side. He decided to get rid of the Stormtroopers and their leader, Rohm, largely by using Himmler's SS.

    3. He entered office with his own personal military construct (the SS) with allegiance to him ONLY. They would carry out things the regular military would never carry out: i.e. the murder of private citizens and political opponents. Nothing like that exists or COULD exist in America. We simply wouldn’t allow it.

Wrong. Hitler had the Stormtroopers from around 1920 forward. The Stormtroopers would carry out intimidation of citizens, start riots, tear up opposition political party HQ's and the like. There was very little killing. The SS was a creation of Himmler that was his personal secret police that controlled the eastern Prussian states of Germany in the late 1920's. They were a small force until the early 1930's and it wasn't until 1934 that the SS became a huge force. It was at this time that an elite division, called the Gestapo, came into existence.

    4. He didn’t start out just killing Jews. He started out euthanizing people with special needs …for the betterment of the care-givers’ lives. (You can decide which side of the aisle favors the extermination of “inconvenient” people).

Wrong. He started out killing his own opponents within the Nazi party.

So you are trying to excuse the Hitlerization of Trump by yourself and others here based on what?...picking apart an opinion blog?

Does that also mean that you don't think Hitler was a monster? Is that why you think it's OK to make Trump out as a latter day Hitler? Hitler wasn't really all that bad?

Just looking for some clarification, Jr.

In light of your Christian condition, I'm asking for your justification for making Hitler comparisons with Trump. Even though you try to be subtle, it's still clear as day what you are doing.

Remember the show Hogan's Heroes? It was funny and clean, and without any effort to remind us that Hitler was evil. These days, you couldn't make a show like that without constant reminders of Hitler's brutality to Jews and homosexuals (even though the nazi party leadership was had many homosexuals in it). The modern version would be full of vulgarity and reminders that the US military was segregated and women weren't allowed in combat. There would even be a homosexual POW hiding, in fear, his "sexual orientation from the nazis, and most of his fellow prisoners.

Comparing Trump to Hitler is silly and no big deal. Not any worse than Stephen Colbert spending five minutes joking about the length of Trump's tie when the tie was about an inch longer than optimal.

I never said Trump was like Hitler. I don't know where you get this stuff from. Do you hate me so much that you make up lies about me?

Funny (but not ha-ha funny) those who are liberal among us (they quack like the proverbial duck, etc...) don't want us to compare others to insects or animals have no problem comparing Trump to a human animal of the Third Reich.

Perhaps some quotes as evidence, rather than just vague accusations?

You have Hitler on your brain.

Hogan's Heroes completely avoided the issue of the Holocaust, even though many of the principal actors were Jewish and were directly affected by Hitler's policies. American television audiences did not want to hear about the Holocaust, and I'm certain it would be difficult to create a comedy that acknowledged it, because there is nothing funny about a government systematically imprisoning and even murdering tens of millions of people it finds undesirable.

Keep in mind HH was duirng Vietnam - Americans wanted shows to get their minds off the war.
Vietnam was know as the "living room war" as it was on the news every night. Not so with WWII - ( very few TV's)
Also the actor who played Col Klink insisted that the character be portrayed as very dumb, as Werner Klemperer was in real life the son of a Jew who fled with his family from Nazi Germany in the 1930s.

Be Careful What You Wish For (especially if it is Hitler)
    Posted January 29th, 2017 @ 11:50am in [HASHTAG]#Trump[/HASHTAG] [HASHTAG]#immigration[/HASHTAG]

As a trained persuader, I’m seeing a dangerous situation forming that I assume is invisible to most of you. The setup is that during the presidential campaign Trump’s critics accused him of being Hitler(ish) and they were sure other citizens would see it too, thus preventing this alleged monster from taking office.

They were wrong. The alleged monster took office.

Now you have literally millions of citizens in the United States who were either right about Trump being the next Hitler, and we will see that behavior emerge from him soon, or they are complete morons. That’s a trigger for cognitive dissonance. The science says these frightened folks will start interpreting all they see as Hitler behavior no matter how ridiculous it might seem to the objective observer. And sure enough, we are seeing that.

    Pleas
Please don't act like this. You know its ben a standard tactic of the left. I hear it all the time on here. Nazi this and Nazi that...It sad to think of how any holocaust survivors would feel about people referring to a democratically elected president as a Hitler.

I mean its not like he's drone striking his own people or wiretapping the whole nation, or getting caught tapping newspapers and tv stations phone lines right? Those are the bad things....
