Working today and am the only one in the warehouse yet a locked door opened by itself and I saw the sun shinning into the room and I then approached the door and it closed by itself. It's not windy today and that door is jammed locked so no way it could be the wind. Security is all over it and the video shows no one at the door inside or outside the building. I tell you this place is haunted and devils are prowling around. I am spooked. Wonder if I should go to that door and try and cast out the devil but nah don't want to play with fire.

Cast a demon out of a door? Since when do demons inhabit non-living things?

I believe that devils can open doors that are locked. Devils can do as much as God allows them to do.

Working alone in an empty building can actually be a frightening experience. I had to do checks in an abandoned building which was part of a hospital. The psych ward was in the basement and it looked like something from a horror movie (old green tile, glass with bullet holes). Sometimes homeless people would hide in the old rooms. It's a wonder I didn't have a heart attack.

Maybe this will help the next time you are in that situation: the idea devils are opening and closing doors is just mysticism ingrained in our culture. Some substitute the older myths of ghosts with devils to try and make their ideas more Christian. Paul tells us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood (not against the material but the spiritual...not against devils opening and closing doors but against spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places). We fight against the rulers, the powers, and world forces of this darkness.

If that doesn't help, then think of it this way - what you are suggesting is foreign to Scripture itself. There are absolutely no examples in the Bible of devils operating in the manner you have suggested they operate. As Christians we get our worldview from Scripture. So you are safe to dismiss the idea devils are haunting your workplace.

You have no idea of all the details. The Bible does not exactly give us the details of what they can and cannot do, but I know what I saw. The security officer checks the video and no one was there. The door was jammed locked. Reading a little bit of Erwin Lutzer this morning and he is also a believer in that devils have the power to do as much as God allows them too.

Do you even read before you reply? Is that too difficult for you to understand? I clearly said I was alone yesterday which I was. Also the door that was opened is not connected to any badge reader but is a manual door that was jammed locked.

I never argued against the truth that demons have only the power to do as much as God allows them. I am arguing instead for consistency and the immutable nature of God.

If a devil was not involved yesterday then you explain what happened.

There are endless (to use a literary device I've invented called exaggeration).possibilities. For example, it could have been a mechanical failure (I've seen things that took me a month to figure out, but ended up being mechanical). It could have been someone playing a trick on an overly superstitious man. It could have been God. It could have been an overactive imagination. It could have been a lack of attention towards detail (I lean towards this one). Or it could have been a spiritual force tempting you into more mysticism (we are tempted from without, but in regards to what is within).

Do you have an example from Scripture of a devil opening doors? What do you think the purpose of such things would be? Why do you think that such things are not recorded throughout the biblical historic record?

Potlucks and youth ministry and choirs are unbiblical! I can't find any in scripture!

Someone could have been playing a joke on you, knowing how you would react.

Yes. The apostolic church had common meals. This would be along the line of potlucks. Youth ministry and choirs fall into discipleship and worship. You are off base here (probably why you have devils opening and closing doors for you).

Potlucks, youth ministry, choirs, bus ministries, Wednesday night services...these kinds of things we find in contemporary churches are not "unbiblical" because they are expressions of what is taught in the Bible. You are holding a pagan idea of devils and declaring it possible because their power does not exceed God's authority.

Personally I think this thread is misplaced. It needs to be in a "Pagan/Christian" category so as to leave the Baptist Theology & Bible Study section for topics that are actually biblical. But unfortunately we don't have that category.

Seem to remember you speaking about something like this before. I just have to ask, wouldn't threads like this be better in "General?"

This is Baptist Theology and Bible Study.

    God bless.
