Woman tells about her once-estranged elderly father getting dementia and no longer remembering his adultery and deserting his family:

First-Person Real Life Story

"He spent his days sitting in his big red chair watching television....A divorced couple on the Jerry Springer program was screaming at each other. Dad looked up at me and said, 'Isn't it wonderful that no one in our family has ever been divorced? We all love each other.' Wow! Who would have ever thought that such truth could come from a Jerry Springer moment?"

"Dad had no memory of the time he was away from the Lord.....When once asked...Dad sincerely replied, 'I have never left the Lord. I have always loved Him.' God literally removed his sin and blotted it from his memory, so he remembered it no more."

Bob Harrington, this man, was called the "Chaplain of Bourbon Street" in the '70's, because he ministered to the characters there on that famous street in New Orleans. I heard him preach once back in the day--he had a lot of flash. Sad that he wandered away from the Lord for so long.

I once read a book on such cases. The author surveyed preachers who had cheated on their wives and lost their ministry. The most common regret was just that: they had lost their ministries. What a privilege it is to serve God, and how foolish to throw it away.

Mrs. Kelley seems to be referring to Hebrews 8:12 when she says:

"God literally removed his sin and blotted it from his memory, so he remembered it no more."

Subject title looks good for a Theology Forum, but in reality it belongs somewhere else....

...news? ...general discussions?

Maybe a new forum would be the answer... An inspirational Forum in the Christian Fellowship Forums... Just a thought... Brother Glen:)

Where do the tear jerker testimonials normally go? IMO, this one could be in Missionary/Witnessing.

I'm not so sure dementia is what that scripture is talking about.

Your thoughts?

It's God that's doing the 'not remembering' in the passages, and it's not on account of dementia that God doesn't remember.

12 For I will be merciful to their iniquities, And their sins will I remember no more. Heb 8
17 And their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. Heb 10

Is it not good to have testimony of the redeemed as part of this section of the forum?

The grace and faith of God for the believer remains steadfast, never failing.

Certainly, in the midst of all that this section of the forum does battle over, we should all rejoice when evidence of one repugnant believer repents.

Do not the angels rejoice when even one truly repents?

They certainly don't over the worldly being sorry.

I remember Bob Herrington, I remember his fall, and now to know that he repented and was again embraced by the family is a whole lot worth rejoicing.

Too often the assembly has scorned the truly repentant rather then allowing the example to profit.

If forum designation no longer matters, then why not post this in the jokes/humor forum then?
Heck, let's just go ahead and dispense with all boundaries/designations on this board and have anarchy, no government.

When I (and most others I'm sure) come to this [theology] forum it's NOT to deal with emotional tugs such as this. Jerome even recognizes that he mistook the gist of the article.

Would it not be good to just go ahead and dispense with all boundaries/designations on this board? Think about it old man.

Unless the open all boundaries / designations dispensed is heavily monitored and regularly held to a standard then I really wouldn't want to be a part.

For example.
Inappropriate or questionable language is becoming more regular even on some of the BB forums.

It is not as if the moderators/administrators can catch all infractions, but at least on some level of activity there is a certain level of inappropriateness that isn't tolerated.

No, I do not.

This is a theology and Bible Study forum.

My title alluded to a Bible passage, which was misunderstood or misused in the linked article.

The Bible says everything good comes from God. Some older folks grow mean spirited while others grow kind and loving. I am all for giving credit where credit is due (i.e. the blessings of God) but would not blame God for causing this person to turn away from righteousness. God causes or allows whatsoever comes to pass.

Not to turn this into a debate, but does not this post dispute your thinking of “free will?”

If “God causes or allows whatsoever comes to pass,” the nothing happens that God is not ultimately responsible and does not conflict with your views concerning “freedom of the will?”

I like your view Van, I am coming face to face with myself and realize how far I have to go.
My inclination is to be one with Him as He prayed.

John 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one.
I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
