The Bible states that we can can know that we are saved and have now eternal life in Jesus Christ, correct?

 

If we persevere to the end. How do you know you will persevere to the end? You don't and unless you can foresee the future, you can't. Only God knows.

And how do you know that he started with you? Meaning, how do you know that you are truly elect and that he ever worked on you to begin with?

Nobody can honestly say that they know for sure. Only God knows. Calvinist can only hope that they are elect.

 

We can know that we have passed from being dead in sins to now alive in Christ, as evidenced by love for God now, for other believers, for being able to understand the scriptures, to want to witness for the Lord now etc!

John 5:24 KJB uses the active word "believeth", being in Koine Greek: πιστευωνG4100 V-PAP-NSM, which is to say in transliterated Greek: pisteuwn, a "verb" [action is taking place], "present" [right now], "active" [ongoing], "participle" "nominative", "singular", "masculine".

It is not a one time "believe" and ends it. It is to be an ongoing continuous abiding relationship of faith and trust, once belief comes, it must be nurtured and grown [as as seed, planted in the garden of the heart]. Yet, it is upon our part to so "abide", "remain", "keep" [as in Genesis], etc. All of which modify the state, from simple one time passive, to an ongoing active or action necessary upon our part, working through/by this faith with God's promised word. Look for the modifying words. The Calvinistic [OSAS, [unscriptural version of] predestination, [unscriptural versaion of] elect, irresistible grace, and such like] ideology of the T.U.L.I.P. cannot stand the test of "freely", "whosoever will" and "let him" and "abide", etc:

The Holy Spirit seals and indwells all believers in Jesus until the day of being glorified in Christ at His Second Coming! thats eal is etrnal and cannot be broken, as the Spirit is Himself God, and none can break that sealing! What can and will separate from the love of God in Christ towards us, as per paul? NOTHING!
