I'm a young-earth creationist who believes God created the heavens and the Earth 6000 years ago, and all the separate species.

Come at me, bro :Wink

Based on that view I would have never accepted Christ as my Savior. But now knowing God through Christ I cannot not be a Christian.

The speed of light. And a near naked eye galaxy Andromeda is believed to be about 2.5 million light years away. That understanding seems to make your YEC view impossible.

Now I personally believe the 6 days of Genesis 1 are to be understood to be 6 earth days (Exodus 20:11).

I believe the first day our Sun became a star. And by the fourth day the solar system debris which blocked seeing the Sun, Moon and stars as distinct lights was blown past the earth. Today the mean velocity of the solar wind is about 310 miles per second. At 93 million miles that takes about 3 and 1/2 days to reach earth.

What if the speed of the light was not a constant? Einstein for all his genius was wrong about the universe being static. What if he was wrong about the speed of light and constancy?

The Bible says the sun was not made until the 4th day. There was a light source however from the beginning - day one.

I taught science for years. I love science. I used to claim what you say in your last paragraph to appease my scientific observations and provable notions. I don't do that anymore. I still believe that the solar system works in a systematic and constant manner. I also believe Genesis 1 that says the sun was made of on the 4th day.

I don't believe that the two contradict each other. Why?
  • God made the universe in the order [sequence] and fashion that he chose. It doesn't have to make sense to you and I. We believe it on faith.
  • He put into all things in the universe a sense of order [consist rules] that maintain what he created. This should strengthen our faith.

Based on that view [ YEC ] I would have never accepted Christ as my Savior.
Fortunately the belief in a young earth is not a prerequisite for salvation.
Young earth creationists have their own strange science, grasping only those bits and pieces that fit their belief. Sometimes incorporating YEC into a exclusive gospel.
There are plenty of old earth creationists around, although not so many in Baptist circles.
We’re merely biding our time, waiting for God to enlighten them. :Whistling

Other things are affected. The speed of light is equal to the frequency times wave length. Energy of a photon is equal to frequency times plank's constant. Conservation of matter and energy becomes at issue too. It is not that simple to suppose the speed of light is not constant. That affects time dilation and gravity as well.

Do you remember the issue or year?

But I found the article in Science News: Speed of light not so constant after all

But it is a special condition of pulsing light.

It has long been known different frequency of light travels at different velocities when transmitted through matter. Higher energy travels slower then lower energy photons.

Another article explains how light might travel at a different velocity in a vacuum. Speed of Light May Not Be Constant, Physicists Say

It's an interesting "problem". Things show a progress (light traveling to a point of observation, a sapling growing into a tree, cells developing to complexity....and such). But often there is a mutual dependency between things and stages of things (a simplistic example - no chickens, no eggs...no egg, no chicken).

We are the ones waiting to see theistic evolution thrown out!

Could not God just had everything everywhere just "show up" at the same time in creation in Universe?

I think perhaps the name of the article was something different than I previously stated - I think I remember the word "heresy". :)

Also it had to do with the first few moments just AFTER the Big Bang.
Time could have been distorted due to the variability of C at the "time". Time Compression/Decompression ?
The present laws of physics were not in play but something else of which we know little.

My memory may also be distorted :)

Right when God created the Universe, physical laws not yet in place, correct?

Absolutely - "let there be light" caused the first day.

IMO sold matter is photon reassignment/rearrangement (someone elses idea, I forget who).
