I couldn't let this question slide with so many groups and solo artists flooding the airways and Christian networks. I am going to do this question a wee bit different in that I like to know who your favorite solo artist is, and your favorite group. And if you have more than one group or one artist, byt all means list them too, but please place them in order or rank of your preference. Let's keep the list of artists' or groups to a maximum of three in each.

Have fun. I look forward to reading your lists, and hopefully many of us will discover names of artists and groups we have not heard of, and take the time to get to know their genre and ability when t comes to praising our Father and His awesome Son!

    Shalom!

I am a rather old school "hillbilly" as some would say, but there ain't nothing more pure and beautiful in my opinion. The first two groups are well-known, at least in my neck of the woods. The last group is not famous, but I think they sing in quite a pure manner and love to listen to them:
#1. Stanley Brothers - Sample of "Hide Ye in the Blood" (Go to 17:52) -
#2. Ralph Stanley - Sample of "Gloryland" -
#3. The May Family - Sample of "The Letter" -

When I'm out working in the field I usually sing along with Dr. Stanley :Biggrin.

Don't really have one. I like a lot of old time and bluegrass music, and there is a lot of really good Gospel music to be found there, but I don't really have a favorite.

I really like a group from the 40s called the Brown's Ferry Four, which, as far as I know, was the first "supergroup", and included Grandpa Jones and Merle Travis.

I also like a lot of "black" gospel music, such as the Clara Ward Singers and a lot of the black vocal groups.

You know, I got tired of Elvis and never listened much to his gospel recordings, but one time someone lent two CDs of his gospel work, and it is terrific. I read recently that as a youth he liked Jake Hess, who worked with him for a time. Now his nephew Steve Hess & Southern Salvation are continuing the tradition. Elvis also did the Dottie Rambo song "If That Isn't Love." And I guess Gaither's "He Touched Me."
