Nothing taught me how to pray like my elderly granny. One day she was totally out of it and I thought to myself what in the world am I going to do? Then I remembered the prayer cloths and anointing oil RW Schambach sent me. I prayed for her a Schambach style prayer, to the Father in the name of Jesus ... And nothing happened! I then went home to rest a little, came back, and she is sitting up! I said, Granny... You are sitting up! She went the next year without having to go the hospital or the doctor until a stroke got her a year later at the age of 89.

Now... There is no power in prayer cloths, anointing oil, RW Schambach, or any certain method. But there are times God honors healing prayers with faith and in the name of Jesus.

In late 2000, my wife was critically injured in a schoolbus rollover; her injuries were severe enough to have killed anyone. But God not only kept her alive; He slowly healed her to about 90% of what she was before the accident, & kept her mind clear. She now has COPD from having both lungs punctured in the accident, but she still works as an office person at the local school, does most of what she did before.(She carries an Inogen machine when away from home, as she's on O2 24/7.) Her survival, etc. was certainly a miracle for which we THANK GOD every day !

James says the prayer of faith will heal the sick. But we notice later in the epistles many believers were sick and Paul's signs and wonders gifts seem to have expired.

“Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick.” (2 Timothy 4:20) (KJV 1900)

“Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.” (1 Timothy 5:23) (KJV 1900)

“Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all. Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first. And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.” (Galatians 4:12–15) (KJV 1900)

(alternate translation of the above passage) “you know that previously I preached the gospel to you because of a physical illness. You did not despise or reject me though my physical condition was a trial for you. On the contrary, you received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus Himself.” (Galatians 4:13–14)(HCSB)

“What happened to this sense of being blessed you had? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me.” (Galatians 4:15)(HCSB)

“For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick. For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.” (Philippians 2:26–27) (KJV 1900)

Paul left Trophimus in Miletus when he was sick (II Tim 4:20), and Epaphroditus was sick to the point of death (Phil 2:27). Timothy was encouraged to use wine for his stomach ailments (1 Tim 5:23). God never removed Paul's thorn in the flesh (II Cor 12:1-10).

So based on this I think most reports of healing are just that. Reports of healing with no documentation.

I saw many claim healing in Pentecostal circles. But more than likely they were healed of psychosomatic illnesses through the forgiveness of sins.

I don't believe the HOLY SPIRIT is at man's beck & call to perform a miracle, be it healing, unknown tongues, or anything else He does. Instead, WE are at HIS beck & call to do whatever. He gives us witnessing opportunities & the chances to do other good worx in Jesus' name.

7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? - Matthew 7

Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. - Matthew 18:19

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. - John 14:13-14

Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. - John 15:16

And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you, Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. - John 16:23-24

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. - Mark 16:17-18

The promises are to those who believe, and not to some select few.

But.... Choosing not to believe is the easiest route.

I believe you are mostly right. But in the British Pentecostal evangelist Smith Wigglesworth's ministry, there were reports of people being raised from the dead. Andrew Wommack makes the same claim about his wife and son. I've heard people testify about being healed from all sorts of chronic and debilitating illnesses, including terminal cancer. I've heard people testify about God restoring limbs and other body parts, even creating new parts. I don't believe all these are made up.

So why do things like this only happen in charismatic/pentecostal circles? maybe part of the reason is that these people believe God still works miracles today, that they did not cease to exist after the apostles died. I don't believe miracles are always dependent on a person's faith, but certainly denying that supernatural healings and miracles still occur doesn't help anyone to get healed! I would like to be part of a church where those things happened, wouldn't you?

If I were to ever get sick I would look up the pastor with the most faith to pray for me. I would not want anyone praying for me who of heart has no faith, no care, and of heart has given me up as a goner.

Human faith is worthless. Holy Spirit faith is not a spigot you turn on and off.

In my church bulletin there is a list of sick and shut ins on what is called a prayer list. There is hopes here that people’s prayer will make a difference.

On the bbnradio.org’s Family Altar they pray over a prayer list. They pray with faith and in the name of Jesus. On asking, they told me they have had many testimonies of healing from the program.

Regarding the Holy Ghost no can say Jesus is Lord, much less anything else in Christ’s name, without him.

Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. - 1 Corinthians 12:3

    Simple and straightforward....

For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. - Mark 11:23-24

James says the prayer of faith will heal the sick. The problem is human faith is worthless and many count on this. Holy Spirit faith is under God's control and he provides or withholds it according to his predetermined will.

The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. - Romans 10:8-10

    And notice in particular...

....The Word of Faith, which we preach... - Romans 10:8

I am white and of Scottish descent, a negative guy brought up in a negative family. In the 1990's our factory hired several Virginia Tech football players who were all black and of Word of Faith doctrine. In all my years of knowing those guys I have never once heard the first negative word out of their mouth, everything they spoke was faith. They called me, "McCwowt" (not my name) and would say things like...

"Do you know what over comes fear McCwowt? Action! Action overcomes fear"

"I'm getting out of here McCwowt" And then lay out some plan of escape. They would also come to me asking...

"What are you believing God for McCwowt?" And expect some great plan that would bring joy to their hearts.

They were also very schooled in the Word of Faith, which I imagine was a help to get them off the streets into an educational environment. If you had any pains at all they would offer to pray for you right then and there. They also broke me of my negative talk and for that I am eternally grateful. There is another thing they use to say...

    "Good fellowship makes you strong."

It is a good thing and a healthy thing to to dwell in atmospheres of faith.

My belief is that the spiritual gift of healing is not practised in the world today as it was in the 1st century, some seem to be able to miraculously heal many with one leg shorter than the other but are powerless over cancer and any other serious condition. Most healing ministries today have some sort of dodgy theology and none claim close to having healed everyone like happened in acts. I think this is because the healings in the 1st century where done to further the gospel and glorify God to people who had no reason to believe in the true God over all the others around at the time and after the 1st century people had the testimony of others and later the bible. I used to believe that we don't see healings (and the other spiritual gifts) today because we have our faith in how science holds the world together and rely on our pension plans for our security rather than have faith in God but no longer think this is correct.
I do believe God can and does heal and perform miracles in the church today but does not impart these gifts to people and does so at his will not in a way that but saying the right prayer or having enough faith we can make him do it.

Please see the Heb 2:4 passage

Also, true Divine Healing is found in the resurrection for the xian not in the here and now. Doesnt everyone eventually get sick and die? Of course so, it is part of the curse from the fall in the Garden.

Ultimately, death is a blessing for the xian. It is in death that we meet our Savior face to face, and the physical body is transformed into the glorified body.

The psalmist (23) was correct, yeah though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death thou art with me ie, God is with us in our most needy time which is death

I had a cousin who had become paralyzed in car wreck. The family hired an ambulance to take him to Louisville KY to an Oral Roberts Crusade. When they met w Oral, he would not even pray for him or the family.

BTW, why didnt Oral heal himself. He died right?

Also, it is not Gods will to heal everyone, if so God would do it

It is in sickness that we learn empathy, sympathy and learn to truly trust in the midst of adversity
