For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Yes that is a wonderful gift, but not the greatest gift.

1 Corinthians 2 King James Version (KJV)

2 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.

2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

What would people before the Bible was collated consider to be the greatest gift of God?

They looked for the promised seed as God had revealed to Moses.Gen3:15
    Gen4:25.
Moses was not there but received that true knowledge directly from God.
God already was unfolding His eternal purpose to Redeem a multitude in His Son.

That's like asking which is more important - Birth of Christ or the Resurrection of Christ

We would have no true knowledge of who Jesus is, what is sin, How all men were rendered spiritual dead in the fall into sin and death.
We would not have any idea that eternal life was possible in our Great High Priest.
We would not know of second death, or the work of the Triune God in saving an elect multitude in union with Jesus.
We would not understand why God's law is Holy just and good.
We would not understand the basis of mercy.
    We would still be in the language of Eph2:12;
Strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world.

    Consider American Indians.
They worship the great spirit in the sky with rituals, and works based offerings and idols.
Roman Catholics add idolatry and works to the perfect work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Scripture, quickened by the Spirit lead to a to our Great High Priest, and life in Him.
Mormons have a false jesus,Jw's have a false jesus, another jesus another Gospel.
God given scripture quickened by God and welcomed by the sinner leads to saving knowledge.
For the most part, without scripture humanity does not know God.
God can have special mercy on His elect, infants, mentally challenged, etc. But for the vast majority the true knowledge is the greatest gift..

I think that the Angels and all all the redeemed will be worshiping and praising the Lord Jesus, and not His book!

God the father exulted Jesus to be the Living Lord, as to Him is the eternal Kingdom and dominion, not His Bible!
God the Son died for me, not his book!

The elect Angel's see Him face to face. The redeemed see Him face to face.
We have to understand how to get there first.

Without the scriptures how do you know who Jesus is?
Answer the questions I asked you, one at a time.
Have you ever read chapter1 of the 1689 confession of faith?
Read it slowly, phrase by phrase. Get back to me after that.

    What Lord?
    Who is He?
    What did He do?
    Who created this universe?
    Who defines sin and death?
