John had lots to choose from.
John wrote after Paul had spread the word to the gentiles.
John wrote after the temple had been destroyed (AD 70) and the Jews scattered.
Everything John wrote, he wrote to us ... the post resurrection gentile church.

That was my point.

 

John wrote what happened , back then . Thats what we read now .What took place. Of course so we would believe . The context is also what John wants us to understand i believe.

 

Why is that so, that he wrote his gospel account after 70 AD?

The dates with "BC" count down to 0 so lower numbers come after higher numbers, while dates with AD count up from 0, so lower numbers come before higher numbers. AD 90-100 comes after AD 70.

I went with the "Scholarly majority opinion" that placed the writing of the Gospel of John between AD 90-100. I did so simply because it was the majority opinion and I have no personal expertise to challenge it on any scholarly merit.

My actual point was that John wrote his Gospel to a gentile target audience rather than a predominantly Jewish audience. That suggests that what he wrote was selected because it was applicable to the post-resurrection gentile church (as opposed to the oft argued "that was for Jews only").

If you can prove an earlier date, then publish in a journal and sway the scholarly majority opinion. I have no dog in that fight.

Love is the prime. If you can tell me ONE difference between Jesus and Love then you still have more to learn about both.

Also the great commission pretty much covers prior to Paul.

I didn't have to read past Matthew to understand the gospel and Jesus died for us. If after reading the four gospels you didn't get the gist of it till reading Romans?

The moment Jesus gave the sermon on the mount that shot me down. He expressed everything I ever wanted to be and the only thing I look up to.

Those in the book of Mathew did not understand the Gospel till after the resurection . Check Luke 18 . 31-34

Yes. But that does not give the reasons for that belief.
Now John 5:2, ". . . Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. . . ." Those porches as such having their coverings before 70 AD. John 5:2 suggesting John was written prior to 70 AD.

 

Like I said, publish and correct the scholarly majority.
I am not an expert and I have no vested interest in any specific date.

 

1. I never said there was a 0 BC or a 0 AD, I said the dates count down to 0 and up from 0. The zero is the instant that 1 BC ends and 1 AD begins (moment of the birth of Christ if the calendar was accurate).
2. I stated that it was a joke.
3. The fact that 90-100 AD comes after 70 AD because with AD lower numbers come before higher numbers has EVERYTHING to do with your question.

 

Everything that God has ever said is specifically given to the chosen people of God. The elect, predestined to redemption.

 

I’d be happy to just get people to accept John and Romans ... I am SO tired of being told “that wasn’t for the Church, that was for Jews”.

 

I hear you. Part of that is the large contingent of Baptists in the US who have bought into Dispensationalism.

 

I'd settle for a calvinist to use context when using a single verse instead of seeing everything is about them.
