Featured Has Theology Died?

Cheer up... that’s how I felt about BO and Trump... and BO lasted 8 years.

 

Removed from the teaching of the Bible? No sir.

 

Political discussions will dwindle w/I the month and more theological discussions will grow, I promise... just lay off the political stuff. Lastly cultivate edifying theological discussions without trying to insult... be gracious. Remember that there are people watching and learning from all of us.

All American politicans have unbiblical views. I saw this as someone who with regard to civil government thinks more like someone from the Puritan era than either a Republican or Democrat. If I were to reject politicans on the basis that they had morally unbiblical views concerning policy, then I would have to reject all major candidates Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative.

Even many in the religious far right are too radically liberal for me.

 

Can the term “capricious” enter into that one? Then we would probably insult the wide range of Catholics that come here (to get insulted).

 

My point is not to call evil good or good evil, wrong right or right wrong. The Bible says in the book of Isaiah, “Woe is unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness...” (Isaiah 5:20 ASV) But I don’t think recognizing that the policies of our rulers being sin means we should not regard them as our legitimate rulers, those whom we ought to honor, respect, and be in subjection in the Lord in so far as is possible without sin.

Sin in our rulers does not excuse our sin of speaking lightly of them, maligning their persons, or speaking evil of them. We can recognize that they are in sin, give them biblical counsel, and when asked about their policies whether we believe they are morally acceptable or not to speak the truth, but this does not justify the great sin of speaking evil against our rulers. (Exodus 22:28, Acts 23:2-5)

The honoring of our leaders and those in authority is itself a moral issue. Remember Daniel spoke truth to King Nebuchadnezzar while still respecting him, speaking respectfully and honorably of him.

“Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if there may be a lengthening of thy tranquility.” (Daniel 4:27 ASV)
