But that does not prove that they believe that all instrumental music displeases God. It only proves that they do not choose to use it, etc. If you have evidence that shows that they actually believe that the playing of instrumental music by anyone anywhere in the world for any reason displeases God, I would be interested in seeing that evidence.

I am not saying that there is no such evidence. I just have not heard of such a belief by anybody.

I have no reason to provide Bible support for any particular position because I have not taken any stated position in this thread.

What Do You Believe about Instrumental Music?

I don't see any treble with it if it upholds the bassics of the gospel.

Actually, the answer to this question is not important enough for me to spend any time researching it further (I skimmed the article that you linked to, and I did a quick Google search and did not find anything). I already knew long before this discussion that the Church of Christ and certain other groups reject the use of musical instruments in worship. I have already studied that specific point a lot.

If they reject the playing of any instrumental music by anyone anywhere in the world because they believe that all of it is displeasing to God, that is something that I am not aware of. If they (or any other people) hold such a view, I would have no problem with adding that view to the options.

Because scripture does not call a certain form of music...evil.
You are merely sharing your opinion. It seems odd that you would require scripture when the scripture is silent on the use of instrumental music.

Again, I have not shared any opinion. You are the one who shared an opinion so I asked if you have any Bible basis for your opinion.

Moreover, the Scripture most certainly is not silent on the use of instrumental music. There are nearly 200 verses in Scripture that explicitly mention either musical instruments, musicians, or both.

You mean in Church? God would rather you didn't use instruments, and the singing should be simple and kept to a minimum.

Outside the Church? Of course the moral principles governing our communications apply as it does in everything we do.

Hmm. What Scripture teaches that "God would rather you didn't use instruments . . ."

I believe that "some instrumental music pleases God. The rest does not please Him." I am ok with your regarding that as my opinion because I am not providing any Scripture to support it.

I have had many intense battles with other Christians in other online forums on the subject of music so I do not want to get into such exchanges here.

In that case, I would recommenced that you do NOT start such OP's.

I have neither sought to get into heated exchanges elsewhere nor am I seeking to do so here. Although I have been intensely attacked in various forums because of my very conservative positions on Christian music, I am still interested in hearing what other people think about music and why they think what they think about music.

That God is not pleased by One of these Days by Pink Floyd?

Yes. Scripture tells us we have a freedom, but anything we do is to be done for the glory of God.

I like Pink Floyd (my #1 group is the Grateful Dead, but Floyd is a very close second).

That said, Gilmore and Mason are athists; Wright was an atheist (he is deceased), and Waters is agnostic. I doubt the music was designed to glorify God.

Perhaps someone could play the song to the glory of God. I just do not see it.

I'm grateful to say that it has not been here on BB. In other forums, I did seek the help of moderators, and sometimes they did intervene to help but sometimes they did not.

As a result of what I have experienced elsewhere when discussing the subject of music, I typically do not seek to talk about my views and focus on hearing what others have to say. I would not have shared my position in this thread had you not asked about it.

You are working hard to not have an opinion, yet you keep wanting others to share scripture. That's odd behavior.
I have told you that the Bible is silent. Therefore, I share my opinion.
We can end our conversation right at this point, or you can offer scripture. Your call.

Please provide the scripture that shows what God declares about using musical instruments.
Any ban on drums, stringed instruments, horns, woodwinds, tambourines and xylophones? Please share. You seem well versed in verses that tell us what instruments are acceptable to God.

They must be using an odd bible for look at this passage:
    1 Chronicles 25:1-7
    especially verse 6

All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord,
    with cymbals, psalteries, and harps,

for the service of the house of God,

according to the king's order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

OK but that's (just) for worship.

Why should we expect anything different outside of worship?

Oh, because we know there is a special music for God and if we did not play that special music those in attendance might stop coming.

But one of the posters in this thread said we should try to glorify God in everything we do.

That is from a bible verse isn't it?

So should not the music we listen to glorify God at least in some way?

Perhaps a test would be if you are listening to Pink Floyd you would glorify God.

Maybe then God would give it a 95 with or without the beat.
