They are opposed to God. If they were not, they would already believe.

    Matthew 12:30
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.

it is very simple, that I need not check the Greek or Latin, as the English is very clear. Yet, because what Peter says here, is against reformed theology, ways are sought to ignore these words. This is the typical reformed way of doing things, like with John 3:16!

speak for yourself! before I was saved on the 25th Feb 1982, I was NOT against God in any way. I was brought up in a Christian home, and went to a CoE Church! I did NOT hate or rebell, or dislike or do or think anything against God. There you have it.

    Does John 3:16 teach Universalism?

Universal Death of Jesus Christ, but not Universal salvation, as the sinner must "repent and believe" first, as you know I believe.

again, speak for yourself. I did NOT deny that Jesus was God, even before I was saved! many Roman Catholics fully believe in the Holy Trinity, to the shame of many so called born again!

and what is that? I believed that Jesus Christ IS Almighty God, and the Holy Spirit IS Almighty God, before I was born again. But I had not "repented and believed". The devil also believes in the Holy Trinity, but cannot ever be saved!

What a joke. This poster said he would present his interpretation of the listed verse (James 2:5) and then makes a bogus claim about a different verse. Trying to discuss biblical doctrine with Calvinists is a waste of time. See post 89. :)

Yet another bogus claim, devoid of references, and certainly aimed at changing the subject from the verses cited.

"Listen, my fellow siblings in Christ, has not God chosen the poor to this world, yet rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He has promised to those that love Him." Interpretation of James 2:5

    Key points:
    1) beloved brethren refers to James' fellow Christians, rather than Jews or just men.

    2) The idea is God has chosen individuals who were poor in the eyes of the world, or poor according to the world's value system.

    3) The verb "chosen" has three objects or receptors of its action: (a) those poor to this world, (b) those rich in faith, and (c) those who love God and therefore heirs to the kingdom promised.

    4) In order to be poor to this world those chosen were existing in the world when chosen, not foreseen individuals before creation.

    5) In order to be rich in faith, those chosen were existing in the world and had their faith credited as righteousness by God.

    6) In order to be heirs to the promised kingdom, those chosen were existing in the world and loved God, rather than foreseen individuals who would love God
