Yes, Hershael York did pastor Ashland Avenue Baptist Church. He is currently the dean of the School of Theology at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Louisville, Kentucky) and the pastor of Buck Run Baptist Church in Frankfort, Kentucky.

I attended the oldest Baptist school in the country, and yes, it was a long, long time ago.

Years ago Evangelist Bob Jones recorded (off of reel-to-reel tape! That oughta give you a clue as to how many years ago THAT was!!) onto a LP vinyl his biography, "From Gold Bug to Glory." Gold Bug is a wide-spot along I-75 in SE KY, but that was his home town as a youngun. He recalled how his pappy moved to that poverty-stricken, job-losing area to DEEE-troit, etc., and all along his tale, he'd give out the Gospel. As far as I can recall, his current home is located in SE TN near Chattanooga. I've tried to contact him from time to time but with no response so I'm assuming he's still evangelizing somewhere (He's been to Europe, & probably other continents telling folks about Jesus.) The last time I personally met him was in 2015 at a Missions Conference @ Bible Baptist Church in Clarksville TN. Even then he had a rather tight schedule of evangelization & couldn't remain in his old stomping ground for very long. When you've got as good a news about Jesus, you DO want to tell as many folks as you can of the "Wonderful Love of Jesus"....Right??!!

Good to hear about Hershael York. He was just a scranwy teenager when I first met him back in the last century. You can tell much about the impact his father Wallace York must have had on him, H Y was a Greek scholar par excellent, I once took an Introductory NT Greek class that Pastor David Auckland offered at the Faith Baptist Bible Institute way back in the early 1970s. Greek (as well as Latin) is a very inflected language + has a different alphabet. Pastor Auckland promised that if you took his Greek class, he guaranteed no one would flunk. In my case, he graciously gave me a low D-!! Although I passed HS English (back in 1964), none of my teachers put much emphasis on grammar. It wasn't until I took Eng 101 at CBC that was taught by Doug Armstrong (Who at last I'd heard pastored a church in Mitch-E-gun...somewhere in the Flint area.) & there I "Don't know much about the English I took," (They ougtta write a song bout dat!) that I REELY learned about English grammar. CBC's reasoning was that, if you don't know what a personal pronoun is, it's time to get personal. Anyway, praise God for the York's! I only wish more fathers would take the time to concentrate on their children's future than what I see seems to be a "I'm too tarred to get off of my "Blessed Assurance" to do that!!" attitude among some parents. As if a couple hours a week going to SS & worship services will do.

Thank God that my local church, www.lighthousenashville.org , has returned to her "unified worship service once more this SONday. It's like Pastor John Yancey pointed out, a brick by itself cannot function as God intended, but together & mortared with other bricks, God can (and does) do great things to glorify Jesus & add to His family.

    The latest...
Report on Brother Bob Jones: “My father's surgery is over. The surgeon said that everything went as planned, no surprises. They believe they removed all the cancer. He is in recovery right now and will probably get placed in room in a couple of hours. Please continue to pray for him. He will stay overnight in the hospital for observation but could come home as early as tomorrow. We will continue to try to keep everyone updated as we get more news. We thank each and every one of you for your prayer and concern.”

I was saved in Tucson AZ in April of 1966. I was an Active Duty USAF Airman 1st (Subsequently the USAF re-named the E-4 rank as Sgt., but since that time they've changed it several times!) as an Aircraft Electrical Systems Repairman. In 1965=66 we were primarily tasked to work on the F-4C fighter/bomber which at that time was probably the USAF's most technically advanced (& repair-wise the most complex to work on!) aircraft. That was some 55 years ago. Now I'm told that the USAF has F-41's, which I'm sure are somewhat more advanced than the F4C ever hoped to be. Since I was an AD USAF Sgt. working 12-14 daily shifts, attending the UofAZ was out of the question. I was saved at Metropolitan Bapt. Church (MBC). MBC was pastored by William ("Bill") Bowler. Since Tucson was (& still is) basically a retirement center, opportunities to fellowship with 19-20 YO's was quite limited. The USAF then transferred me to Ramstein Air Base in Germany in 1967. It's my understanding that MBC no longer exists. Its bldgs were destroyed by a fire sometime in the latter 1960s - early 1970s, so I'm guessing that MBCs members merely found some other Baptist churches to join. Just when were you in Tucson? My older brother lived in Tucson off & on until the mid-2005s. He now lives in CO, but I did visit him in 2015. Tucson sure has changed since the 1960s!

I just graduated from there in 2020 and it was through their online program.
The theology courses and everything didn't seem too different to me at the time.So I'm not so sure if there was a difference in doctrine from the classes I was attended.

Graduated with a BBA from Maranatha Baptist University.

My church, however, has representation from many IFB schools both past and present. Although we only have approximately 130 members, our active membership includes alumni from the following schools: Pensacola Christian College, Heartland Baptist Bible College, Bob Jones University, Maranatha Baptist University, Oklahoma Baptist College, Commonwealth Baptist College, Tennessee Temple University, and Hyles-Anderson College.
