    2) Army seem like the logical choice

    1) As a choice of service versus not having that choice.

    2) Air Force. More like a regular job. Still military.

    1) Why did you join the military?
1st Time: Believe it or not, it seemed patriotic.
2nd Time: Married with child and wanted a job
    with benefits.
    2) Why did you choose the branch you did?
1st Time: Army - I liked what the Army offered.
2nd Time: Coast Guard - Less likelihood of
    overseas duty.
    3) How old were you when you went to Basic/boot, ect

    1st. - 18
    2nd - 24
My dad served in the navy and my brother was already in the navy when I joined the army. My dad was so irate with me, you would have thought I had joined the communist party instead of the U.S. Army. At a family reunion, my grandma quelled the furror when she said that she was proud to know I was joining the Army. She said "Your grandpa spent 10 years in the Army and he loved it. I know he would be proud if he were alive today."

I was drafted into the Army in 1965 at age 22. I chose to step forward when my name was called rather than face the threatened legal action against me if I did not. I did my best to serve my country honorably, but I did and do consider conscription to be a form of "involuntary servitude" outlawed by the constitution. However, the SCOTUS must overturn one of their decisions for this to become a reality.

The COTUS does give Congress the authority to raise an army -
Does not limit the way it can be done.

I joined because my number back in 1969 was so low, I was going to be drafted anyway. By joining the army, I was able to volunteer to go airborne. I was 19 when i went to basic.

Involuntary Servitude is not allowed by the COTUS. But the SCOTUS redefined the meaning of the words...

Why? By saying that I believe that Christians should not be in any of the armed forces? So we are muzzled here?

You can make your comments in another more appropriate forum. Making them here is like making them in American Legion/VFW Post.

Why did I join?... My Dad was a WWII Marine Corp Veteran, from Texas and after marrying my mother, decided this city she was from, was a good place to raise his family... So he settled in San Diego, which is by all means is a military city, where I grew up... He did his boot here just like I did at MCRD but he was a regular and I did boot as a reservist at 18 but went regular later, during Vietnam... Why did I become a Marine?... You didn't want me joining the Navy... Did ya!... In the words of Hank Williams Jr... Its a family tradition!:D... Brother Glen:)

No more than members of the Royal British Legion or one of the regimental old boys' organizations.

My son joined the Marine at age 19,and the main reasons were bored, and liked their dress uniforms!

I joined for several reasons :

    1. To help others
    2. To acquire training in an area I wanted to work
    3. To support my family
    4. To serve my country
