"Governor Greg Abbott today tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The Governor has been testing daily, and today was the first positive test result. Governor Abbott is in constant communication with his staff, agency heads, and government officials to ensure that state government continues to operate smoothly and efficiently. The Governor will isolate in the Governor's Mansion and continue to test daily. Governor Abbott is receiving Regeneron's monoclonal antibody treatment.

"Governor Abbott is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, in good health, and currently experiencing no symptoms. Everyone that the Governor has been in close contact with today has been notified. Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott tested negative."

News reports say that he was previously vaccinated, but he has been appearing in photos, unmasked, in close proximity to a number of people over the last few days, including this morning.

He has drawn a lot of criticism over his refusal to allow any state or local agency (including school districts) from allowing masks to protect students and faculty. As Governor, he is tested every day, as well as his close associates, and he was unable to protect himself from getting COVID-19. I hope this changes his mind on his refusal to allow needed local control over slowing the spread of COVID-19.

Masks stop a virus like a chain link fence stops a mosquito. (Quote from some famous doctor. Who was it? Oh, I just can’t remember? Could it have been Fauci?)

All those illegal aliens coming into Texas, COVID infected, are harming Americans by spreading this virus. Now the governor. May God strengthen him to full recovery.

    peace to you

Masks inhibit transmission because they capture some aerosols.

There you go in typical leftist fashion, willing to sacrifice liberty for a little perceived safety. You deserve neither.

If you think the vacvine is supposed to keep you from getting covid then you may want to read up before making a decision.

The vaccine does not provide sterilising immunity (like most vaccines you can still get covid).

The vax is supposed to make you less symptomatic (just like with the flu vax, the pneumonia vax, the measles vax...).

But we can watch how this gov. fairs.

No, mask can capture droplets, not aerosols. That’s my understanding anyway.

You sneeze, the big droplets are captured but the virus flys out through the mask with the air.

    peace to you

It's kind of weird. I went back to my pro vax Doc today. He asked me about vaccine. We talked a long time. He said he was disappointed in it. He said the CDC did claim that the vaccine would prevent symptomatic infection and would prevent transmission.

From an study posted on line:
These observations directly demonstrate that wearing of surgical masks or KN95 respirators, even without fit-testing, substantially reduce the number of particles emitted from breathing, talking, and coughing. While the efficacy of cloth and paper masks is not as clear and confounded by shedding of mask fibers, the observations indicate it is likely that they provide some reductions in emitted expiratory particles, in particular the larger particles (> 0.5 μm). We have not directly measured virus emission; nonetheless, our results strongly imply that mask wearing will reduce emission of virus-laden aerosols and droplets associated with expiratory activities, unless appreciable shedding of viable viruses on mask fibers occurs. The majority of the particles emitted were in the aerosol range (< 5 μm).

You must also factor in decrease on immune function due to prolonged exposure to re-breathed air.

They may have (I did not watch CDC reps....fauci?).

But I do know that the actual information provided on the CDC ever since the vaccines were avaliable did not claim the vax prevented infection and they did list the side-effects.

Perhaps it just depends on what everyone look for on the CDC site. I do not know what was in their flyer or summery as I went straight from the fact sheets.

I suspect they were led not to advertise that the vax was not more effective than any other vax so more would get it.

I'm not sure how many would take the flu vaccine or the pneumonia vacvine if they knew those did not prevent infection.

I've learned - long ago - with DC there is always an agenda.

No, you are confusing sanity and the principle of local control of school and municipal policy with being a “leftist.”

    (1) Wearing a mask is not a reduction in liberty. One’s liberty ends when it impacts someone else’s health or physical well-being. Do you boycott restaurants that abide by health codes? If you have this attitude, you should.

I love my neighbor, like a disciple of Jesus should. Why can’t you do the bare minimum if you claim to be a Christian?

Do you live in a low oxygen environment? Remember, in the best of times, we do not naturally breathe pure oxygen. Most of what we breathe in and out is nitrogen, with a little over 20% oxygen content, which is more than enough for us to thrive.

Tell it to someone who is not a certified trimix diver.
Might want to study what the biggest obstacle to development of the re-,breather was.
Rebreathin g CO2 is the problem, not lack of O2.

It supports what I said. Most people aren’t using the surgical masks or kn95 respirators. They were simple cloth masks. They specifically stated they didn’t test for virus transmission through the mask. Another worthless propaganda effort from pseudo “experts”.

“Mask do not protect from the virus. It is silly for people to run around wearing masks all the time.” Quote from a famous doctor. Who was it? If only I could remember his name?? Who oh who could it be? Could it have been Fauci?

Additionally, if you are wearing a mask and the virus is in the air (in small droplet form) it passes right through the mask with the air you breathe.

    peace to you

Just a silly comment, BB. He is referring to reduced oxygen because the masks capture Carbon Dioxide when you exhale into it. So the air becomes increasingly saturated with carbon dioxide, causing people to become lightheaded and pass out if exerting themselves.

    peace to you

It’s news that is relevant to a controversial policy.

I’m not sure why you don’t/won’t understand that. You are not required to have an opinion or even read the post.

Nope. You are judging me according to the impulses of your own character.

The Governor has compromised immunity and has already had a third vaccine shot. We should be everything we can do to keep anyone — even Trump/QAnon nuts — from getting this virus.

It is the bare minimum for a disciple of Jesus.
