dad2: "When they had to cast out demons it was very deliberate! When it says they shall pick up serpents, it does not say 'pick them up people'. It indicates that if people, like Paul did, pick up serpents, God can heal them. When it says people will speak in new languages, we saw that with Peter. That is exactly what God had him do."

Paul did not "pick up serpents" [plural) and you don't get to treat the phrase as if it says, "AND IF they pick up serpents." The plain but ghastly sense of the text is "they shall pick up serpents (plural)" as a deliberate act, just as the preceding phrases about casting out demons and speaking in new tongues are gladly performed as acts with which the will cooperates.

You have no basis for dismissing the old manuscript ascription of Mark's bogus ending to Aristo of Pella. That is tradition. Pella was the first century mission base for Jewish Christianity just as Antioch was a mission base for Gentile Christianity.

    Berserk,

No. I do not see it that way. Nowhere does the bible encourage foolishness and wasting our life. Jesus did not cast Himself off a cliff just because Satan goaded Him to. The spirit of what is said, as far as I am concerned is amazement at what God can do, and already had done in some cases.

What is that and why would we care?

So where did Mark MOVE to and spent time with Peter etc? Would the finished part of Mark not likely be closer to there?

No. God decided to have a Christian for Mankind.

There is a LAW and RULE beaten into everyone's head in order to enslave the population.

COMMANDMENT #1 For something to be OFFICIALLY CHRISTIAN It must be found in the bible.

But that rule is not found in the bible.

Because I like to try to give God the benefit of the doubt. I like to think that Mark is a good book, and that whatever the reason for a later ending being added, it was a good reason.

I see, so you think the bible is some rule book that can and should be ignored. OK

I have never seen John Burgon, therefore HE DOESN'T EXIST!
How was that for disproving "John Burgeon"? :)

Contrary. If you claim all rules must be in the bible.......then show THAT RULE.

Just show me where it says it.

Well I do do religious terms. :) But I never heard 'detect inspiration' before. Is that a religious term?
The verses are in more than 99% of the extant Greek manuscripts. They belong in the Bible.

I find it easy to detect things that are inspired. Sorry if that sounds like a religious term to you. I do not use religious terms generally, so unless you can speak common English, don't waste our time.

I'm not saying "you" personally. I'm just repeating what was said before. Do you know the common English meaning of "IF"?

If someone says "IF YOU CLAIM" that means you absolutely do?

Are you just going to take whatever people tell you in the worst light possible?

    2 Timothy 2
24The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, skillful in teaching, patient when wronged, 25with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,

Everyone here on this board is on the same side. We don't have to be combative over this. Everyone loves Jesus.

If anyone trusts God they not going to be troubled by what anyone says. I think you are a good person. I think your concern is valid.

But we shouldn't be worried. We could ask God for the answer. But maybe that solution is too easy or boring.:Laugh

Why don't you ask God and tell me the answer you get.

No you can't. If it has error, then it is not infallible.

I don't take it in that sense in the context of Mark. Nor do I see where it says all believers will automatically be healed from poison.

Not sure what the question is. The topic is about Mark finishing his gospel. I have no problem assuming he did that. Now if anyone knows differently they should have presented the evidence by now.
