I don't think that there is a single Christian since the Church was Founded, who can truthfully say that Jesus Christ was "Lord of all of their life".

    Calvinism didn't begin with Calvin.

Of course he did, so much that he wrote it down by inspiration of the Spirit.

Back to John 3:15-18, which destroys most of the 5 Points. Even you don't really know what you believe on this passage!

I think you are right. There has to be a balance and I think it shows that we all need to be in church. There is a place for applied teaching. Some of the writings of guys like Bunyan and Watson can get you depressed and thinking, "I can't do this or I am not saved". Read Edwards on Holy Affections and you will be doubting your salvation in a few minutes. In fairness to MacArthur, he tried not to do that and was only addressing a specific problem that indeed is a big problem in modern evangelicalism.

Only some people call it Calvinism, not all people. And there are many of us who came to these beliefs from Scripture alone never having heard of Calvin.

On the contrary, it enforces the points.

    Nothing new under the sun:

16 Be not righteous overmuch; neither make thyself overwise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself?
17 Be not overmuch wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time? Ecc 7

    [add]

"Don't be so heavenly minded that you're no earthly good".

So none could be really saved by an extreme Lordship position!

Think that Dr mac was and is addressing the big concern that many are sitting in churches on a weekly basis, listen to good sermons, but really never have trusted in Jesus to get saved!

The writer to Hebrews says they are "drifting."
    Hebrews 2:1
Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.
    Hebrews 3:12-19
Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.

There are Baptist preacher's who teach that you can simply say a prayer and be eternally secure, regardless of change of behavior. It is that false teaching to which MacArthur reacted and said there needs to be evidence of Lordship.
