The Golden Chain Part II

What does "called according to His purpose" mean? We have already presented the view that those called are those who are transferred into Christ's spiritual body, becoming "the called."

"According to" translates the preposition "Kata" with the meaning of "in consequence of" so the idea is that those transferred, were transferred in consequence of "His purpose."

Purpose translates a Greek word meaning to place before others a determination or plan of action, such as God's Redemption Plan. So those transferred into Christ's spiritual body were transferred in consequence of God's predetermined redemption plan, His purpose.

Yet we have perceived that for the ones loving God, all is working together for good, to the ones becoming "the called" according to His purpose.
They are called because they are predestined to be called. Not because of anything they do.

The purpose of God choosing a people for His own possession is stated over and over in scripture. Read 1 Peter 2:9-10

Agreed

a royal priesthood = purpose

The following priesthood.

If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron? For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar. For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest, Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Heb 7:11-17
So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Heb 5:5,6

Rule and teach.

From Romans 8:29 that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. (So born/begotten.)

In all honesty, there are some observations that have been missed by everyone who's been in this conversation thus far:

By Van: if this so-called golden chain applies to every believer, then it really doesn't matter where you want to plug in predestination. You're onto something with your highlighting that "those who love God" are in view, but loving God is not a prerequisite to being saved from hell - nor is it a synonym for someone believing the gospel for the first time.

The reformed crowd: stop thinking everything in scripture relates to heaven vs hell. Y'all have had 700 years to get away from your Roman Catholicism but you keep hanging on.
Good grief.

Glorified - read verses 17-18 if you want to see what glorification relates to.

The socalled golden chain isn't a focus on predestination, it's a focus on the reality that God knows the end from the beginning, and has marked out a road to "glory" through suffering. It's for believers, not unbelievers

And they are predestined because God foreknew them
God chose us, predestined us, and foreknew that his chosen ones would in fact not be lost. God has done all of this. Anyone attempting to remove the glory from God by claiming they assisted God is making a worldly and ungodly claim.

They are called because they are predestined to be called. Not because of anything they do.
Two things are predestined once we are saved by being chosen and placed within Christ's spiritual body: (1) to be conformed to the image of His Son, and (2) we are predestined to our bodily redemption at Christ's second coming.

Van we are predestined TO BE SAVED. That's what the verse says. Predestination doesn't happen after the fact, that's nonsense.

Did I say this applies to every believer? Nope. Not even close. Why did you not quote my view, this applies only to those who have been transferred into Christ's spiritual body based on God crediting their faith as righteous faith.

Loving God is a prerequisite of being saved. James 2:5

No one said or implied loving God is the same as believing into Him.

And now lets turn to what you have missed. You claimed God knows the end from the beginning. But you did not supply a verse reference. That is because the verse says God declares the end from the beginning which is not the same thing.

Yes Romans 8:17-18 does indicate our salvation within Christ glorifies us. But again, that is what I said
7) And therefore, our spiritual rebirth as children of God, glories us as siblings of Christ, made blameless and perfect and righteous. And of course, those who are "the called" have been glorified.

Ever notice how many times Falselogy advocates claim others do not understand scripture? LOL No where is scripture does any verse or passage say or suggest anyone is predestined to salvation. They cannot even read Romans 8:28-30..

Yet we have perceived that for the ones loving God, all is working together for good, to the ones becoming "the called" according to His purpose. Because those whom God knew would be chosen based on their love and faith, He also designated beforehand to be conformed to the image of His Son, for His Son would be the firstborn of many siblings. And those He designated beforehand, in His Redemption plan, He also called (or transferred into Christ), and those He called, He also justified (by the washing of regeneration) and those whom He justified, He also glorified as blameless, righteous, perfect spiritual children of God, siblings of Christ.

4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.

*Romans 8:28-30*

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

*Romans 8:28-30*

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.

*Romans 8:28-30*

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Have you created your own translation, Van? It doesn't read like any version I have ever read.

This shows a major lack of understanding of the Reformed Crowd.
Uh. No. It doesn't.
Almost the whole of your theology is man-centered. Who's going to heaven and who's going to hell dominate your so-called theo-centric doctrine. But it's barely inches from Rome

James, you have shown no grasp of Reformed theology. From what you have written in the past, no one here at the BB will agree with much of what you write. How about you just cut to the chase and share your own soteriology for us. Start a new thread if you wish.

Man-Centered? BAHAHAAHAHAHA like I said, you have no grasp of Reformed Theology whatsoever. And no, what dominates the theology is God's relationship to His people.

I have explain this verse dozens of times. Why bother to explain it again to those is pretend ignorance. Folks just read Romans 8:23.
