Not at issue.
Stop right there. Where?
Lk 21:37 And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.
38 And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.
Then Jesus
six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
12
On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
This (the next day) would be day 1 - Sunday, after 6 AM
Mark 11 - Same day as John's next day = Sunday
8 And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way.
9 And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord:
10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.
11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.
Mark 11 - 12 On the morrow = Monday after 6 AM
12
And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:
13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;
19 And when even was come, he went out of the city.
This is the finish of day 2 and the beginning of day 3.
Mark 11:20 - In the morning after 6 AM - On Tuesday - Day 3
20
And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.
22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
The end of the day when Jesus leaves the temple on day 3 and goes to the Mount of Olives where the teaching of day 3 continues with Peter, John, James, and Andrew.
Mark 13:1 And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,
4 Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?
After the 3rd day, there were two days,
Wednesday and Thursday, that Mark did not record any Temple visits or teaching.
Mark 14:1 After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.
2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.
During these two days the Jewish rulers attempted to find a way to put Jesus to death before the Passover, but obviously could not.
They find a way on Thursday: Mk 14:10 And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.
So, Mark has given us 5 days so far in succession. Sunday through Thursday. These days are marked out clearly in his gospel.
Friday = Day 6 - beginning in the evening. The next 3 days are most important and so Mark notes that this is "the first day" of the feast.
Mrk 14:12 And
the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?
17 And
in the evening he cometh with the twelve.
Day 6 - Friday - The morning
And
straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.
25 And it was the third hour, (9 o'clock) and they crucified him.
33 And when the sixth hour (12 0'clock) was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
34 And at the ninth (3hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
The end of day 6 - Friday.
43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.
46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.
Day 7 - The Sabbath - Resting when work of redemption is finished. 6 PM to 6 PM - 24 hours.
Mark 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him
This is where we get the body is laid to rest when our work on earth is done.
Day 8 - Sunday - the Resurrection day.
2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
This lines up with the NEW age, the New Testament, the beginning of a New week where sinners can receive the new birth, with the promise of a new body where we can occupy the new Jerusalem in the new heaven wile we are a new man in Christ. I don't know what prophetic strain you get with a Wednesday or Thursday crucifixion.
Without this none of these new things could happen.
Next post I will use our calendar for you and follows Mark's testimony of days and see how it works out. But the Bible is a Jewish book. I think it is proper to understand in their culture.
