It's the opposite around here. We have a few Catholic churches, some Presbyterian and Methodist churches, but most are Baptist.

If you renounce all it is to be Yankee I'll put in a good word for you.
I will go so far as renouncing the Bronx Bombers but the Mets is a bridge to far… even when they stink I’d still be a fan. Sorry but it’s in the blood… even the Giants :Rolleyes God help us.

Help me out here, moderators. I'm happy to keep slapping him down, as he does follow me around. He just doesn't seem to get it though, and I feel kind of bad about that.
Dave, I don’t have a problem with people who are confrontational with me… I take it as another way to learn … and grow. Let stuff roll off your back. I learn from everyone… including gruff types. So relax, you could always 1. send private messages indicating your displeasure, lay off etc. (2) you can report someone who is out of line and let the mods address it (3) you can block someone.

Thanks. The reason I asked is because we have family serving in a "Bible Church" in SNJ that is 100% baptistic, but the name has been unchanged since the work was founded in 1865. I would refer to it as "high-end medium" in size, perhaps 200 for a typical Sunday morning.
I’m in NW Jersey…. We speak a different language… youse guys & yestaday. Let me know where it is though and I will look them up. Thanks

You're right. It's just that this was a good thread about something I know very little about and then out of nowhere this starts up. It's my fault. I just can't resist replying to an insult thrown waist high and right over the plate. But then I feel bad about it later. Apologies to Martin and Jon C, and Tyndale who had put up some thoughtful and helpful , to me anyway, posts.

My apologies to you Dave, seriously. I'll try to do better with you in the future.

I certainly think the idea that since we are blessed with actual teachings of Jesus we should definitely follow His stricter application of the Law.

Is the Sermon on the Mount for Today?

At it's core the Sermon On The Mount is an exposition of the law given by the Author of the law, addressed to the recipients of the law, showing the spirituality of the law, summed up here:

48 Ye therefore shall be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Mt 5

...some 1400 years earlier He had worded it this way:

45 For I am Jehovah that brought you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy. Lev 11

Oh no! I must be perfectly holy?

Whew, thank God:

14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Heb 10

I liked the baseball reference, Ted Williams be praised! We all get it, when I first got here there was a Polish guy (a moderator) who absolutely despised Roman Catholics ( I was an RC for 35 years… so when he went after Catholics I defended them to a point. This moderator questioned me aggressively and even wanted to reach out to my pastor at the time. And you know who came to my defense… the Old School guys. And they have always been there for me, always instructing me, answering questions, treatIng me with respect. So you don’t know, and sure they can and will upset you… then step away, regain your composure and press on, God may be testing and teaching you a something.

Be well⚾

Thanks EWF. Good advice. I can't remember what that was all about though. But then again I can hide my own Easter eggs these days.

One that I'll add - where you end usually depends on where you start

If your focus is on man, on God creating an elect people, then you will find your conclusion.

If you focus on Christ and the New Covenant then you will find Him throughout God's Word as its Primary Subject.

The main presupposition of NCT is that man cannot know God except as revealed in Christ. He is the only way. And this is the NCT objection to Covenant Theology.

Do they (NCT people) make it a practice to wash feet? See John 13:12-15

On second thought, forget about it.

18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. Jn 1

One of three (at least) major themes of the Bible. IMO.

Hardingville Bible Church, in Gloucester County.
And "youse guys..." sounds more like NE Jersey. 50 years ago, NW Jersey had more cows than people and it's still fairly rural (for NJ) and without the Brooklyn-to-Newark accent. I spent my first 4 years in East Orange (4 square miles, 30k people, so not very rural) then grew up in Northern Morris County in a town of about 30 square miles and 1.5k people - 70 years ago, probably 10k now but still mostly forested.

I worked in NYC for 30 years and my wife is from Maywood / Roshelle Park. I’m in Hackettstown, not far from Morris County. The church is over 100 miles away (2hr 9 minutes).

I am currently preparing a sermon on Ecclesiastes 4. If I can't find Him there, I shall be wasting my time and that of my congregation. Luke 24:27.
