Why should I? I agreed with you that such a thing didn’t exist in my first response to you:

As any reader of basic English understands, I wasn’t addressing that specific point. I was addressing every other point -- your terrible God-diminishing "God's eyes" theology.

You are simply ignoring the parts of my response you don’t like and mischaracterizing it to keep from having to admit you were wrong. It seems you would rather speak wrongly of God than to admit personal error.

I have not insulted you once. I’m calling you out on your narcissism.

That’s an astounding feat of self-deception. I don’t think anyone else is deceived. We can see what you are doing.

Wonderful passage. Doesn’t say anything about marriage.

    peace to you

Well….. ah…… ok. Anyone with a basic understanding of English will recognize that comment as an insult and your denial of the insult as intellectual dishonesty.

Let’s just call it a night BB. You are getting personal and I just want to focus in scripture.

    peace to you

Don't you think that "walk circumspectly" includes ALL aspects of life?

Yes. I also believe we must careful not to go beyond what scripture teaches, especially in condemning the brethren for their conduct.

What she said was inappropriate. The life she is living, with her fiancé, is not mine to judge. Let each be convinced in their own minds.

IMO, whether she knows it or not, when she proclaims the intention to be married and then “knows” her fiancé, they are married in the eyes of God I haven’t found anything in scripture that says otherwise.

    peace to you

So is it your view that anything goes unless it is specifically condemned by name in the Scriptures? If that is not what your view is, then do you have some standard you go by in deciding right and wrong, even if it is not named in the Scriptures?

No, I do not believe anything goes Unless it is specifically condemned by scripture. (Sigh)

I am only focused on the question of what is the biblical basis for marriage.

    peace to you

    Okay. I understand.

I think that in the culture of the United States that a Christian should have "a piece of paper", just as among the Jewish culture the apostle Paul had Timothy circumcised, even though it was not necessary Biblically for Timothy to be circumcised.

And I(being old and old fashioned) consider what Nancy Mace has been doing to be "shacking up".

    No you don't.

If you really were, you would have engaged with all of the scriptural examples I provided regarding the biblical basis for marriage instead of pretending to be a victim who claims to want to focus on scripture. Your actions tell the story.

I understand and don’t necessarily disagree. It is problematic, to be sure, for professing Christians to be living together as husband and wife if they don’t really consider themselves to be husband and wife.

If they think it’s wrong, but do it anyway, it is sinning against God because they are going against their conscience.

It could be, however, that announcing the intention of marriage, and then “knowing” the spouse is all God requires whether they realize it or not.

    peace to you

Concerning the John 4 passage: the woman at the well in Sameria: Jesus tells her she has had 5 husbands and the man she was with was not her husband.

    The possibilities are…

….the woman had 5 husbands that all died, which is not a sin, and was now living with a man out of wedlock with no intention of being married.

Or, the woman had 5 husbands and had been divorced 5 times for unfaithfulness, and was now living with a man she had married, but the marriage was invalid in the eyes of God because of her unfaithfulness in prior marriages…..

Or, the woman is a serial adulteress with other women’s husbands (which would account for her coming to get water at noon instead of in the morning with the other women.) and was currently in a relationship with another woman’s husband….

The circumstances of this woman’s life in no way disprove the premise that if a couple declare they want to be married and then “know” each other, they are married in the eyes of God.

Again, what she said was vulgar and inappropriate in any setting and especially so at a prayer breakfast.

May she repent and live a happily, faithful life to God and her husband.

    peace to you
