So, you would slit the throat of some innocent animal every year to supposedly atone for your sins. I wouldn't. And I don't believe God would require it. I don't believe He required it under the Old Covenant, either.
I believe He did require it. You eat meat?

My mother’s family on her mom’s side had small grocery stores in small communities. So they had to provide food which is meat so they kept sheep, cattle and chickens… all for meat to sustain for people in the community & and that required them to kill their animals. My uncles were not slaughtering to sacrifice to G-D but to keep their communities people healthy & working ( mostly in the coal mines). If you see this in the lens of feeding the population to keep them in mines to produce coal to build America well where is the sacrifice?
