I like what he said about the creation in Romans 8, and his views of the resurrection in 1 Cor. 15. I don't like his views about sacrifice.

But I figure I'm on solid ground since Jesus quoted and agreed with the prophet Hosea, saying, "I desire mercy, not sacrifice".

So, you would slit the throat of some innocent animal every year to supposedly atone for your sins. I wouldn't. And I don't believe God would require it. I don't believe He required it under the Old Covenant, either.
I believe He did require it. You eat meat?

My mother’s family on her mom’s side had small grocery stores in small communities. So they had to provide food which is meat so they kept sheep, cattle and chickens… all for meat to sustain for people in the community & and that required them to kill their animals. My uncles were not slaughtering to sacrifice to G-D but to keep their communities people healthy & working ( mostly in the coal mines). If you see this in the lens of feeding the population to keep them in mines to produce coal to build America well where is the sacrifice?

As I said, you are both in the weeds. We Christians were sacrificed by Pagan Romans for worship of Christ so do we want to follow them?

There's a difference between slitting an animal's throat every year as a remnant from paganism thinking that doing such placates a deity's wrath, and eating a fish for sustenance. When I eat seafood, I don't consider that the fish is my substitute for the sins I've committed.

We're all in the weeds and some of us are trying to get out.
That’s quite a healthy ambition… proves you are open minded and a searcher for truth. Funny that it takes loss to have me open my eyes and learn things I myself were taught to avoid… made me rather close minded. I’m not doing that again.
Titus 3:9:
