Women Pastors?

The terms that are used in the Bible are "overseer" (episkopos) and "elder" (presbuteros), and both words are used interchangeably. When we say "pastor," we are talking about that same office.

Since Paul appeals to the male headship established at creation and speaks specifically of husbands, that only allows room for men to hold the title of overseer/elder/pastor.

Women are free to lead and teach others as much as they want, but when it comes to church gatherings, there are restrictions.

And again I point you to where God has used women to both teach and lead.

You want to hold to one view and I see another.

We will just have to agree to disagree.

The SBC's Baptist Press just announced that Baptists in Texas elected Pastor Debbie Potter as their state convention President!

STATE MEETINGS: Texas (BGCT)

That is why most conservative Baptist congregations in Texas are not part of the BGCT but are affilliated with the SBTC (Southern Baptist Texas Convention) as is our church. SBTC broke off from the BGCT years ago because they were getting too liberal.

Call them what you like but they are still preaching and teaching the word of God.

That may be true, but if they are misinterpreting the qualifications for eldership, then they are not accurately teaching this specific area of Scripture.

Oh brother.
AA, here's a church of your 'SBTC' faction in Texas, with women pastors!

Here, look it's in the SBTC Directory

:Cautious Just not accurately.

Sorry @Kai, I posted before I finished catching up.

Show me where the lady in question was not preaching the word of God.

Are you as concerned about men who pastor churches and do not follow the word of God? It seems that some main line churches that will not let a woman preach will let these men do so.

That is your view but I see that the bible shows a different view and so we disagree.

But you haven't proven your view using the Bible. Essentially, the only thing I've heard is "It's just too difficult to believe that God would set things up that way."

We can agree that women can and have led and taught others, since that can be found in Scripture. Deborah and Priscilla would be good examples. But I've also demonstrated from the Bible that only men are qualified to hold a position of authority in the church, and you haven't refuted it using the same objective standard that we both have.
