How we know

I want to address spiritual knowledge, or how we know spiritual truths. I contend that the way we know what is true spiritually is by first-hand experience. The early Quakers were fond of stating something like this: "You say, 'Paul said this', or 'John said that', or 'Peter said', but what can YOU say?" In other words, if you believe something because someone else said it, without yourself having direct personal experience or communication from God, then your knowledge is second-hand knowledge. Or head knowledge.
I believe that. But what if we never have that personal experience or direct communication from God? Then we have to rely on the words of others, like the scriptures, and I do believe God speaks to us through the scriptures. But then comes the problem of whose interpretation of the scriptures is the correct one -- mine, yours, a particular denomination's? I think that's both a strength and weakness of the Baptist, and Protestant, view of the Bible.
Anyway, don't most Christians have only head knowledge of spiritual truths?

"If Jesus Christ was standing in the room with us, He wouldn't have anything to say other than what's already been written". Arthur Crawford

I believe that.
If Jesus was standing in my room, I would like for Jesus could discuss some of the many things He did, including things He said, that are not recorded in the gospels.

John 21:25

And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written.

:Smile IP addresses don't match so we can't do anything. I checked that right off the bat. But people can have a wide variety of IP addresses.

We have at least two sock puppets here IMHO.
And lots of different people can have the same or similar views.
If anyone is suggesting that I am this 'Mur' individual, I am not. I do now remember reading some of his/her posts right after I joined and started posting. I take it that this person was banned?
Oh, and that reminds me of a question I wanted to ask: What are the grounds on here for banning someone?

And some of you are full of it. I am not this Mur person. He/she was already a member before I joined.

Exactly! If you'd been a member before you were banned as Mur you'd have a leg to stand on. When it quacks like duck . . .

You have altered some of your positions somewhat to become a little more of a skeptic instead of an outright universalist. You told me in a post you weren't sure if you hold a universalist position only to turn around and deny it. Which is it and why are you posting OP in the same vein that Mur did? You display the same trolling behavior as Mur. Even resorting to personal attacks (like nutcases) when questioned

Again, it sure Quackin like a duck

I can say your arguments do not sound like Mur's, the beliefs you mention were not Mur's views, and the IP's do not match.

IP'S don't match but easy to use a different IP. He sounds very similar and I guess time will tell. If I become convinced he isn't pulling the same game other previously banned members have pulled, I will apologize. Presently, I smell a rat.

Mur was posting before I joined, and also after. Are you dense?
I said I am unsure of what I believe about the afterlife. I doubt eternal hell, but I lean toward annihilation.
You need to go ahead and apologize because I am not Mur! I take an oath before God that I am not!
