When a church in your neighborhood sports a rainbow out front.

A pastor/friend of mine as a general guideline will consider marrying anyone who asks him. Christians must marry Christians but he will marry non-Christians with the stipulation that they attend counseling sessions with him. He has had same sex couples ask to be married, that's where he draws a...

2 Kings 23:29; Another issue with and a Question; Why Didn't the NKJV Translators Catch that?

So oddly enough, I’ve been working my way through 1 Chronicles lately (I haven't even looked at 2 Chronicles til this popped up). I guess that’s why the thread caught my attention. The 2 books of Chronicles are something I’ve never really studied… they start out so slow… chapter after chapter...

2 Kings 23:29; Another issue with and a Question; Why Didn't the NKJV Translators Catch that?

To answer your question, here's what I came up with. The Hebrew phrase rendered went up to is used in 1 Kgs 20:22 to mean “to go against” or “to attack.” Various translations apply that meaning here in verse 29 by saying Neco “went up against the king of Assyria” (KJV, RVR; similarly SEM)...

The Word of God - A Treasure

Interesting! I never hear of this and was interested enough to dig a bit deeper. Paul’s word ‘grace,’ (charis), was related to the ordinary word ‘greeting,’ (chairein). It's a type of theological word-play by Paul. "Paul brings the salutation to a close with his traditional expression, Grace...

    Apocalypse Cancelled!

Interesting technical article about the Greenhouse effect. [link here] "...Sadly, I fear the chance that this analysis will convince any true believers is small. They’re caught in the Upton Sinclair Trap. He famously said: "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary...

Important Differences Between the Textus Receptus and the Nestle Aland/United Bible Society Text.

I rarely agree with your posts, Alan, but have to admit that generally I agree with it. The Textus Receptus is a product of centuries of refinement begun by the Greek-speaking believers of the Byzantine era. Concerning the Textus Receptus: In some cases the word order was updated and spelling...

Apostolic Ministry, cessation of of Gifts?

My wife has a cousin, she attended all the 'right' Baptist schools, felt called to preach, ...and ended up in the Episcopal church as a minister in the far Northeast. She visits occasionally, due to retire soon. Rob

    Missions Giving and Bible Translating

I moved away about a year ago but my previous church (Crossing Community Church) supported a translation team involved with a translating the scriptures into an east India dialect. Much of their missions budget supports indigenous Christians working to educate and support local pastors...

    Old age

I’m recently retired, moved away from the area I’ve lived in for 50+ years. Life’s taken its toll on my health as well…and it’s difficult to travel after my prostate surgery. But I’m a classic introvert, solitude suits me. I have my books, even as my eyes dim. My wife and I found a great church...

    The Servant Of The Lord

Having worked in a Jewish hospital and been a congenial colleague with many Jews, those I've associated with generally interpret these passages as a metaphor for Israel itself, though a few might admit that the servant is messianic. None of them ever took the jump to admitting that Jesus...

John 15:2, 'Every branch in me...'

The study group I attend has been going over the Gospel of John. We discussed the beginning of John 15:1-17 this week. There were a lot of questions... and even commentaries are divided on the SPECIFIC meaning of passage. Questions: Who are the one's that don't bear fruit and what happens to...

The eight "word" words in Psalm 119

From one of my many notes on Ps 119: Terminology The term Torah [ תּוֹרָה ] is universally acknowledged to refer to instruction. In fact, there is no Hebrew word for “law” (= legislation), and now it can be seen that the reason for this is that the ancient societies were not legislative...

    Hebrews 11:2

What more shall I say? (Hebrews 11:32a) The list that follows were people not necessarily noted for their powerful life of faith, but for the power of the God that they had a measure of faith in; ...Gideon (Judges 6) , Barak (Judges 4), Samson (Judges 13), and Jephthah (Judges 11). Rob

    AI--What do you think?

Classic sci-fi constantly warns about the danger of AI. One of the earliest examples that I can recall was a sci-fi trilogy called, Colossus. Astimov touched on the theme in his Robots series, programing the three laws: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human...
