    In Perils Among False Brethren;

    No one ever who is a true believer in Jesus Christ recognizes Bart Ehrman as a "top scholar" or indeed, any kind of Bible scholar. He hates the Bible, hates God, and tries to do the best he can to tear down the written and living Word of God, both. That is not true Bible scholarship. So you are...

    Erickson is the systematic theology used in many Baptist seminaries, including where I got my MA and where I now teach. The title is Christian Theology, 3rd ed., and is well worth the read, as are the other books of his I have.

    You've never heard of John MacArthur, Charles Ryrie, Millard Erickson (not a dispensationalist), etc. etc.? All would agree that covenant theology is not taught in Scripture. It is instead inferred to some degree.

    You finally answer partially! Thank you. I don't see what your point is here. Your implication is that it is impossible to be a biblically studied person and not a Calvinist. I could not disagree more. Read the biographies. It was the doctrine. We'll see. He does not participate here.

    I checked it out. He clearly holds to covenant theology, which has no basis in Scripture. I much prefer Millard Erickson. I won't be participating. Still grading research papers from weeks ago, working on a book for kids, etc.

    He had profs both Calvinist and non-Calvinist. He came out non-Calvinist. You apparently think that makes one an apostate, judging by your OP, which you never explained to me though I asked you to. Like I do, he has good friends who are Calvinists. I and he just don't argue about it with our...

    Good scholars--I have Hodge's Systematic Theology and books by Warfield. But that's not who you originally referred to. That's a big error! Sure. I have read his book on the Holy Spirit. And I have no desire or need to refute his other books. That's not what I'm about. He was a respected scholar.

    In Perils Among False Brethren;

    There seems to be a dismissal by the Calvinists on this thread of a good theological PhD. Do you guys have any idea what it takes to get a good PhD in Bible? My son has a BA, MA, MDiv and PhD in Bible, all from good nationally accredited schools. This took him a total of 13 years or more (I...

    In Perils Among False Brethren;

    Thanks. This has no connection with my points. Spurgeon was not a theologian, and never claimed to be, though he was a great pastor and an awesome preacher, the "prince of preachers.". Jones was a greatly used pastor, but did he claim to be a theologian? (I've read some of his stuff, and been...

    In Perils Among False Brethren;

    A PhD in physics does not qualify Murray in any way to teach theology. If he were to submit his CV to teach Bible in any school I know, he would be told (metaphorically), "Don't call us, we'll call you." It's like this guy who is a successful lawyer, yet took it upon himself to edit and correct...

    Irrelevant. Irrelevant. My profs were all good Baptists. Do you actually think I would endorse Ehrman? :Laugh You miss my entire point. My profs have all been good born again Baptists. So? And I keep asking, why would I let you "help" me? And you keep ignoring my question. Correct me if I'm...

    In Perils Among False Brethren;

    Folks, if we are talking about the Christian life, sure, there are many better Christians out there who can help me with that. If we are talking about strict Bible knowledge, I've known many Christians, both full time workers and regular Christians in the pew, who can teach me much. However...

    In Perils Among False Brethren;

    Again, you refuse to answer my question. I'm serious. Why should I let you teach me? (Because that is exactly what you are setting yourself up to be, my teacher, esp. in post #32.) I have had many good teachers in theology, most with PhDs. (I've taken 11 credits in sys. theo.) But here you are...

    What are your qualifications to teach me? (I teach theology in our college and seminary.)

    In Perils Among False Brethren;

    You used 492 words, according to MS Word, and still did not answer my question. And you need not give me lectures on Calvinism. I've known about the system for over 50 years. :Rolleyes

    The syntax of the statements forces us to take it that way if we understand basic English. ;)

    How in the world is it worse to be a former Calvinist than a former Christian? That seems to say that only Calvinists are saved.

    New Article about Honor, Discipleship, and Christian Identity

    The statement about "authentically Buddhist-world and authentically Christian" smacks of a radical form of contextualization, which in its worst forms is compromise of the Christian message of salvation. “The goal of contextualization perhaps best defines what it is. That goal is to enable...

    New Article about Honor, Discipleship, and Christian Identity

    I was not able to access the original article, but am very familiar with the subject of honor/shame cultures, having lived in one for 33 years and read quite a bit on the subject, and lectured on it. I've not run into Chris Flanders before, but he has an impressive CV--except that his PhD is...

    Serious question

    First of all, I believe the pastor has the authority to simply tell someone not to come back if they are not a member. If they are a member, church discipline is necessary. In this case, even if the man is not a member yet, I would say that the steps of church discipline in Matt 18 due to the...
