Hallowed by Your Name explained in 7 minutes of animated video

I think many Christians, even those who have seriously studied the Bible for year, don't have a clear meaning of what "Hallowed by Your Name" means. The meaning is actually very powerful and beautiful once you get it. It may be the most important prayer request in the universe (in a way). I...

Why Do You Believe Enough to Take Risks, Face Dangers, and Suffer Loss for the Sake of Jesus?

Which of the following has God used to help you believe? 1. Logical evidence that the Bible is true 2. Some type of sign or miracle in your life (the issue isn't how spectacular the sign may be to skeptics, but how meaningful it has been for you) 3. Seeing the fruit of the Holy Spirit in a...

    Hell is a real place

Yeshua, Where does the Bible say that God purchased resurrected bodies for the lost that will last forever. Yes, the lost are resurrect, but only to face judgment. There is no verse anywhere that teaches that the lost will live forever. In fact, the Bible specifically says that they will die a...

    Hell is a real place

I certainly agree that people are made in God’s image. This is taught in several places including Genesis 1:26-27 and Genesis 9:6. However, I do not agree that people made in God’s image will not be destroyed by God. Here are several reasons: 1. The Bible never says that God will not destroy...

    Hell is a real place

You see something which those who do not do word studies in Greek are likely to miss. Namely, when used in the context of what one person does to another person, apollumi very consistently means “to kill”. And when used passively to refer to what happens to a person, it very consistently means...

Why Do You Believe Enough to Take Risks, Face Dangers, and Suffer Loss for the Sake of Jesus?

“I live by faith” (Galatians 2:20). “We sent Timothy, who is our brother and co-worker in God's service in spreading the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith, so that no one would be unsettled by these trials. (1 Thess. 3:2-3a NIV) I would like to ask you share some...

    Hell is a real place

I pray that the Lord will bless the new Japanese translation of the NT and use it to get His Word into the hearts and minds and lives of many people who speak Japanese. May He also bless your teaching and use your students far and wide to spread His love and truth. And may that people group in...

John of Japan. I like to remind myself when I’m discussing/debating a topic with someone, that while the topic may be very important, so is the person. So I hope you won’t mind if I take a mini-break from our discussion about the final fate of the unrighteous (which is important) to ask just a...

    Hell is a real place

It is certainly possible to believe in the immorality of some souls, but not all souls. I believe that immortality is given as a gift by God's grace to those who have believed in Jesus Christ. It is not given to those who do not believe.

    Hell is a real place

There is nothing wrong with discussing the meaning of a word/verse in English before going on to discuss the meaning in Greek. In fact, doing so is helpful. You seem to assume I had bad or tricky motives for doing so. I did not.

    Hell is a real place

John, wrt to your point #1, There is a good reason that the doctrine of annihilationism also goes by the name Conditional Immortality. You are correct in saying that annihilationists do not believe in the immortality of the soul, if by that you mean the unconditional immortality of all souls...

    Should Christians Watch TV?

I wish more people shared your viewing habits! The very fact that none of the shows you like are "popular" shows reveals that most don't share your habits. Be blessed and enjoy watching engineering and space documentaries. (I'm not being sarcastic, I sincerely mean that.)

    Should Christians Watch TV?

Roby, Does anything in my post seem like I'm imposing a "man-made rule of faith & worship upon our brethren"? Or anything in the comments? I'm not sure where this is coming from. How is a post discussing the dangers and possible misuse of TV different in principle than a post which discussed...

    Should Christians Watch TV?

Alcott, thanks for adding a little humor to a serious topic. Not to distract from the humor, but on a serious note, we LITERALLY threw our TV away. I'm not saying all Christians should do that, but I'm glad we did.

    Hell is a real place

John, of course you are right to say that words in different languages do not have the same range of meanings. But that does not mean the meaning of words in our English translations of the Bible is irrelevant to a discussion of doctrine. To the extent that the translators did a good job, they...

    Should Christians Watch TV?

Ann, thanks for sharing this. Can you help me see where in my article I "use such a broad stroke for others"? I specifically state that I don't think everyone needs the same solution that has worked for me. Thanks!

    Should Christians Watch TV?

Yeshua, I agree that those kinds of shows can be every bit as dangerous, if not more so, than shows which have sexually immoral content. In fact, a once preached a sermon where I showed clips from an Oprah Winfrey show where she presents views contrary to the gospel. You can see the sermon...

    Should Christians Watch TV?

Yes, I think that would be good advice. I would also want to talk at least a little about some of the spiritually dangerous content on TV. While I agree that Scripture does not give enough details for us to give a list to someone else of exactly what is ok to watch, I think the Scripture gives...

    Hell is a real place

Yeshua1, thanks for your thoughtful questions. I'm not sure I understand precisely the first part of your reply. Could you explain a little more, and perhaps include some Scripture? But I think I do understand your question about Hitler. I think you are basically asking, "How could it be...

    Should Christians Watch TV?

Yes, it is important for all pastors, and for that matter for every human being, to understand that there is a God and it's not me. And that means we are not free to make up rules for other people and treat these rules as if they came from God. I also resonate with your Biblical passion to...
