    Should Christians Watch TV?

I agree with both parts of what you said: 1. "if you want to preach on the 'evils' of TV", go for it Of course, it is not merely a matter of what we want. If watching TV in some cases is having a harmful effect on people, than it is right and good to preach about this. 2. "leave the...

What do you think of this way of summing up the message of Romans?

Yes, the other exception is Romans 8:28. I really should have listed the two exceptions in the original post. Thanks for helping clarify this for anyone who reads it.

    Should Christians Watch TV?

So, if a new Christian sincerely asked your advice about what was ok to watch and what not, you would answer, "I preach the word and let the Holy Spirit be the Holy Spirit"? That's a little confusing to me, and probably would be to the new Christian.

What do you think of this way of summing up the message of Romans?

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to this. I'm still learning how this forum works. Here's the verse with the word love in English: ESV Romans 1:31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. NIV Romans 1:31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. BGT Romans 1:31...

    Should Christians Watch TV?

What would you recommend to a new Christian who sincerely asked your advice about what to watch and not watch?

    Hell is a real place

Yeshua1, You are right to note that the same word "eternal" is used to refer to both the life of the righteous and the punishment of the unrighteous as seen here: ESV Matthew 25:46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." But what many...

    Hell is a real place

Andy, Thanks for taking time to look at my blog posts. You ask to see evidence of a Greek word that means “annihilation” used in the Bible. Actually there is such evidence. First, we must understand what is meant by “annihilation” when used to discuss the final fate of the unrighteous. We...

    Should Christians Watch TV?

No problem! My article certainly supports the "watch with discernment" option. In fact, I still do that with DVDs we sometimes watch. Still, I think that many Christians, probably most, would benefit by watching a lot less TV. Grace and Peace, Mark

    Should Christians Watch TV?

“I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless” (Psalm 101:3a ESV) Should Christians watch R rated moves or MA rated TV? How much TV should we watch? What should Christians look at on our computers, smart phones, and TVs? My Testimony Regarding Watching TV As a young married...

    A Memorial Day Meditation

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. - Our Lord Jesus Christ (John 15:13) This Memorial Day I give thanks for the many men who followed the example of our Lord Jesus Christ and gave up their lives for others. The price these men and their loved ones...

    Should Baptists care about Ramadan?

A question: Should Baptists care about Ramadan? A short answer: Only if we care about the Great Commission! A slightly longer answer with something practical you can do that will change the world: Ramadan is the Islamic holy month. This year in the US it will begin on Friday, May 26, 2017...

    Was Phoebe a Pastor?

In this post I will address the question of whether Phoebe was a pastor. I will also respond to a new article by Eddie Hyatt, “Did Paul have a Woman as His Pastor” which claims that Phoebe was a pastor. Let’s begin by looking at EVERYTHING the Bible says about Phoebe: ESV Romans 16:1 I...

Who is hurting our children more, the terrorists or the pop stars?

Last night’s terrorist attack at the concert in Manchester was evil. This terrorist bombing is resulting in many family members and friends grieving over the loss of loved ones. Others may lose limbs and have to deal with serious injuries the rest of their lives. In addition to the evil...

    Hell is a real place

I know "dummy" is relatively mild as insults go, but it is still a personal attack on one who is, as far as we know, our brother in Christ. I'm pretty new to this discussion forum. I hope that personal insults are not tolerated, since this claims to be a Christian group.

    Hell is a real place

I'm convinced that part of the reason that some people do not take Hell seriously, and part of the reason some pastors don't preach on it often, is that most Christians have a wrong understanding of what the Bible teaches will happen in Hell. The Bible teaches that those cast into Hell will be...

    Demons and demon possession

Yes, exactly. The Greek word you listed, δαιμονιζομενους, is the verb form of the Greek noun which means "demon". Thus, a very literal translation is "demonized". With regard to demons oppressing people, the Greek does not use a separate verb with the meaning "possessed".

    Demons and demon possession

I believe that demons can and do have various levels of influence in people's lives. I believe this first and foremost because of the Bible. The word "possessed" is not in the original Greek, so I prefer to speak of someone being demonized. I have also seen a few examples of this. In one case...

What do you think of this way of summing up the message of Romans?

Happy, I agree! So many people misinterpret what it means for God to love all people. Summaries can be helpful in some ways (I hope!), but it's important to read the whole book of Romans (and the rest of the Bible) and so prayerfully seek God's help to understand it.
