Psalm 67 CEB Let God grant us grace and bless us; let God make his face shine on us, so that your way becomes known on earth, so that your salvation becomes known among all the nations. Let the people thank you, God! Let all the people thank you! Let the people celebrate and shout with joy...

I meant to say the British Isles --all-encompassing.

The ESV and NRSV should be at the very same grade level. The Message is certainly not at the 4-5th grade level. Someone, or some people, didn't even bother to read it before making that inane conclusion. It's easily at the 9th grade level at least.

The ESV is a perfect translation...to stumble and fumble when reading aloud. That sentence indicates why.

There is no one uniform standard of British English. There are way more varieties on that isle than in big ole' America.

Psalm 61 NJB God, hear my cry, listen to my prayer. From the end of the earth I call to you with fainting heart. Lead me to the high rock that stands far out of my reach. For you are my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy. Let me stay in your tent for ever, taking refuge in the shelter of...

Psalm 61 CEB God, listen to my cry; pay attention to my prayer! When my heart is weak, I cry out to you from the very ends of the earth. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I am because you have been my refuge, a tower of strength in the face of the enemy. Please let me live in your tent...

Psalm 54 NJB God, save me by your name, in your power vindicate me. God, hear my prayer, listen to the words I speak. Arrogant men are attacking me, bullies hounding me to death, no room in their thoughts for God. But now God is coming to my help, the Lord, among those who sustain me. May their...

Psalm 54 CEB God! Save me by your name; defend me by your might! God! Hear my prayer; listen to the words of my mouth! The proud have come up against me; violent people want me dead. They pay no attention to God. But look here: God is my helper; my Lord sustains my life. He will bring disaster...

Psalm 53 NLT Only fools say in their hearts, 'There is no God.' They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good! God looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. But no, all have turned away; all have...

Psalm 53 CEB Fools say in their hearts, There's no God. They are corrupt and do horrible deeds; not one of them does anything good. God looks down from heaven on humans to see if anyone is wise, to see if anyone seeks God. But all have turned away. Everyone is corrupt. No one does good ---- not...

Psalm 47 NLT Come, everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! For the Lord most High is awesome. He subdues the nations before us, putting our enemies beneath our feet. He chose the Promised Land as our inheritance, the proud possession of Jacob's descendants, whom he loves. God...

Psalm 47 CEB Clap your hands, all you people! Shout joyfully to God with a joyous shout! Because the Lord Most High is awesome, he is the great king of the whole world. He subdues the nations under us, subdues all people beneath our feet. He chooses our inheritance for us: the heights of Jacob...

Compared to the CEB as it at least pertains to the Psalms, the NLT is better on several fronts. It reads better. It sounds better orally. It has more of the feel of those translations on the left side of those translation charts. The CEB is too choppy. It doesn't have an English stylist's touch...

Psalm 43 NLT : Declare me innocent, O God! Defend me against these ungodly people. Rescue me from these unjust liars. For you are my God, my only safe haven. Why have you tossed me aside? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies? Send out your light and your truth; let them...

Psalm 43 CEB : Establish justice for me, God! Argue my case against ungodly people! Rescue me from the dishonest and unjust! Because you are my God, my protective fortress! Why have you rejected me? Why do I have to walk around, sad, oppressed by enemies? Send your light and truth --- those...

Back to the CEB. Psalm 28 I cry out to you, Lord. You are my rock; don't refuse to hear me. If you won't talk to me, I'll be just like those going down to the pit. Listen to my request for mercy when I cry out to you, when I lift up my hands to your holy inner sanctuary. Don't drag me off...

    The Common English Bible

I agree that it is not beautiful. It doesn't have a good lyrical quality. The REB for Psalm 23 is much, much better: The Lord is my shepherd. I lack for nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me to water where I may rest; he revives my spirit; for his name's sake he guides...

    The Common English Bible

Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd. I lack nothing. He lets me rest in grassy meadows; he leads me to restful waters; he keeps me alive. He guides me in proper paths for the sake of his good name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley I fear no danger because you are with me. Your rod and...
